Colonel James Robertson
Immediately south of Lake George, between today's Zinder Point and the Town of Volusia, Colonel James Robertson, a Scot and the Barrack Master for His Majesty's Armed Forces in North America, received a 15,000-acre tract that sat idle until the province was ceded to Spain.
The view is downriver looking over the west bay of Lake Dexter toward Lake George. Between the lakes are the towns of Astor on the west (left) and Volusia on the right. Colonel Robertson's 15,000-acre tract was located on the east shore of the river immediately south of Lake George. Land to the west was barred to European settlement by the Creeks and Seminoles.
