Step Afrika!

Beach Meets West at UNF Fine Arts Center

Presented by the Beaches Fine Arts Series, Step Afrika! celebrates stepping. Like a tap dance without shoes, or a band without instruments, stepping is percussive dance that uses kicks, stomps, claps and chants – all linked to African and modern dance traditions. The first professional company devoted to stepping, Step Afrika!’s high-energy performance is a feast for the eyes and ears.

“Each member of Step Afrika! is a single-serving opera, merging music, dance and vocals. There's a palpable zeal in these dancers' eyes, whether they're bounding through a South African gumboot dance, dreamed up by fun-starved apartheid-era miners, or whether they're dancing with video images of themselves, …there's a sense that they're on a mission.”
-The Washington Post

There will be a ticketed reception following the performance. The tickets are $50 and available by calling the Beaches Fine Arts Series office at (904) 270-1771. Most major credit cards are accepted for this event's tickets. The performance is free; the tickets entitle bearers to reserved seating at the performance, great food and drink and chance to meet the artists following the performance.
