Toying with Science

Toying with Science is a fast-paced, varied and dynamic program. It combines circus skills, mime, original music, and audience involvement in the exploration of the scientific principles of gravity, leverage, fulcrums, and simple machines. Garry and his audience investigate basic scientific information and delve into the imaginations of scientists who have played important roles in the exploration and discovery of concepts that define our world. He impresses upon his audience the idea that by mastering simple scientific concepts, one can produce terrific results.

Are You Ready, My Sister?

Our story of Harriet Tubman, “great conductor” of the Underground Railroad, and the Quaker women who helped her bring 300 slaves to freedom. This historical adventure story features live music based on spirituals of the time, dramatic scenes and audience participation. The set is a giant patchwork quilt; as the story unfolds, each square of the quilt comes to life with shadow
puppets and painted backlit scenery.

Swingin’ to the Beat (with Two Performance Dates!)

This fun, interactive and informative presentation by one of the top award-winning collegiate jazz bands and vocalists in the country will have kids boppin’ in their seats and swinging to the beat of America’s original art form—Jazz! From the origins of New Orleans, to the Blues and Big Band Swing, students will learn about the history of jazz in an interactive toe-tapping, finger-snapping program. From scat singing to fun jazzy “hand-jive,” students will participate in creating the music, learning about the Blues form, improvisation, the “swing feel” emphasizing beats 2 & 4. Instrumental solo and band sectional demonstrations with performers take the music to the students in the audience. This is a musical and educational experience not to be missed!

Stone Soup

Without a doubt, this familiar brew of favorites will delight very young audiences — from age 4 to 94! A charming, well-seasoned blend, these carefully selected folk tales from around the world support the literacy movement’s emphasis on the joy of reading. Dynamic, participatory and filled with zesty entertainment, “Stone Soup...” is on the gourmet “not to be missed” list
of young viewers!
