Tiempo Libre
The Cuban salsa band based in Miami is at the center of a bold new project that draws upon their twin inspirations—classical and traditional Cuba. Dedicated to sharing their rich heritage, Tiempo Libre will meet on Thursday, April 16, and Friday, April 17, to rehearse with the UNF Wind Ensemble and the UNF String Ensemble under the baton of Dr. Gordon Brock, Chair of the UNF Music Department, in preparation for the special performance of Rumba Sinfonica (Symphonic Party), a new work composed by Ricardo Lorenz and commissioned especially for Tiempo Libre. An educational and musical experience for students and audience alike. It will take you on a high-voltage celebration of how decades of rich, authentic music can result from the natural interplay between classical and popular traditions.
