First Generation Scholarships

The University of North Florida participates in Florida's First Generation Matching Grant Program. Over 300 UNF students were awarded First Generation scholarships in 2007 during its first year, thanks to UNF fundraising efforts and an appropriation from the Florida Legislature.

In order to qualify students must be a Florida resident, have parents who have not completed their bachelors degree, complete a FAFSA, demonstrate financial need, be enrolled in at least six credit hours, in a degree seeking major, and maintain a minimum 2.0 UNF GPA. Award is contingent on continued funding.

Students are notified of their award at the beginning of the Fall semester via UNF email. For new students, an affidavit attached to their scholarship notification must be signed and returned to One Stop Student Services located in UNF Hall. Once received, awards are posted in the student’s MyWings account.  Scholarship renewal criteria also requires student to complete all hours attempted and is contingent on continued funding. Scholarships are paid over Fall and Spring semesters.

NEW: Important Legislative Update July 2009
The Florida Legislature has amended the requirements to the First Generation scholarship program.  The new criteria indicates student’s expected family contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA will not exceed a level established by the department.  This 2009-2010 year, the EFC cannot go beyond $4,617.  This change applies to all eligible students, including renewals.
