4. I would like to be considered for a scholarship - how do I find out more information?
For optimal consideration for one of UNF's institutional scholarships, submit your complete admissions application and scholarship essay by November 13, 2009. Presidential Scholarship qualifiers need not submit an essay. However, if you'd like to be considered for any of our other scholarships, essays are welcome and encouraged. Applicants will be considered on a funds-available basis. Visit scholarships.unf.edu for a list of topics and to submit your essay..

5. How do I use my scholarship to defer or pend my tuition/fees?
Course fees will be automatically pended against your available financial aid and/or scholarships. If your financial aid does not completely cover your course fees, you will need to pay the remaining amount in the Cashier's Office (Bldg 53). The deadline to pay fees is listed for each term in the Course Catalog.

6. I'm a Florida resident and receiving Bright Futures in addition to a UNF scholarship. Can I keep both?
Yes! As long as the total of your scholarships and financial aid (including Bright Futures) does not exceed the Cost of Education, as determined by UNF Enrollment Services, you are welcome to keep both awards.

7. If I'm eligible to receive more than one UNF institutional award, it is possible to receive multiple awards?
In all fairness to our eligible applicants, UNF refrains from offering more than one institutional scholarship to the same student. You will be able to keep the highest award for which you qualify and earn. Be sure to apply early for optimal consideration.

8. How can I apply a scholarship toward University Housing?
The value of a scholarship would have to be enough to cover tuition first. The remaining balance can be applied toward your housing payment. To defer your housing fees against a scholarship prior to the Housing payment deadline, contact Housing Operations or visit unfhousing.com for a deferment worksheet.

9. Can I apply a scholarship toward payment of a meal plan?
Meal plans are issued through a private organization so it is currently not possible to defer meal payments with your scholarship(s). Please contact the Chartwells Dining Services office regarding payment arrangements.

10. When will I receive the dollars from my scholarship programs?
Once tuition/fees have been covered, the Cashier's Office disburses any balance of scholarship dollars to students after the first week of classes (add/drop) each semester. You can usually expect to see payment beginning in the second or third week of the semester. Refunds may be mailed by check or direct-deposited into a bank account. Visit the Cashier's Office for instructions on setting up direct deposit.

11. If I take classes at UNF and another community college or university, will I still be eligible for my scholarship?
NOT NECESSARILY. Check with One Stop Student Services to ensure proper enrollment for different scholarships and financial aid programs. Your scholarship and/or financial aid may be jeopardized if you are not properly enrolled at UNF. Check with One Stop Student Services before
making any schedule changes. Students receiving institutional scholarships for example, must be enrolled as full-time students at UNF in order to receive funding.

12. How do scholarship awards affect my Federal Financial Aid?
Scholarships count toward your financial aid; therefore, other need-based aid (grants, subsidized loans, etc.) may need to be reduced so you are not over-awarded beyond your cost of education. A Cost of Education budget is determined for each student and, according to Federal regulations, the sum of your awards cannot exceed this budget. Additionally, if you are an athlete, the NCAA has regulations and guidelines that must be followed. It is imperative that you notify One Stop Student Services if you are receiving additional funding as the scholarship award might affect your Federal Financial Aid.

13. Can I lose my UNF Institutional (Blue & Gold/Silver, Presidential, etc.) scholarship?
YES, if you do not meet the terms of your scholarship contract, your scholarship may be canceled. Read your scholarship agreement carefully, maintain the required UNF cumulative GPA, and be sure to enroll full-time at UNF for renewal. Students are evaluated for scholarship eligibility at the end of each spring semester to determine renewal for the next academic year. If you
do not enroll in the minimum 12 UNF credit hours each term (fall and spring), however, your scholarship may be in jeopardy even after the fall term.

14. Can scholarships be awarded for the summer semester?
Federal, state, or UNF scholarships are not usually awarded during the summer. If an independent organization wishes to grant you a scholarship for use during a summer session, contact One Stop Student Services to discuss the logistics.

15. I'm getting a private scholarship. What do I do with a scholarship check when the organization mails it to me?
Please bring the check to One Stop Student Services. If it requires endorsement, be sure to sign the check. Once received, checks will be processed and added as a private scholarship on your myWings award summary. Keep in mind that private scholarship checks could affect your financial aid funding.

16. Where should an organization send my scholarship check?

17. What should I do if an organization requests an "enrollment verification" prior to awarding me a scholarship?

18. How does an Out-of-State Waiver affect the cost of my tuition?
Out of state fee waivers are limited in quantity. The amount offered is based on academic merit and the number of hours in which you are enrolled. The waiver reduces cost of tuition for out of state residents, however, it does not completely close the gap between in-state and out-of-state tuition. For detailed information, see the department (i.e. Admissions, Athletics, Honors, Music, etc.) from which the waiver was awarded.
