Federal Work Study Program

I’ve been offered Federal Work Study as part of my financial aid award package.  Now what do I do?

The process is pretty simple!  Follow these step-by-step directions to accept your Federal Work Study funding and to begin working.

  1. To use your Federal Work Study (FWSP) funding to work on campus (or at one of the many off-campus community service locations) you must accept the award in your myWings account.  Please see the note below regarding eligibility requirements.

  2. After accepting your FWSP award, go to www.unfjobs.org and click on “Search Postings.”  Federal Work Study positions are listed under the “Student Employment” position type.  Be sure to read the job postings carefully because while most of the student employment positions are designed for work study, some are not – you’re looking for work study positions.   Also pay attention to whether it’s an on-campus or off-campus position: the majority of positions are on campus, but there are several positions at off-campus locations.

  3. Once you’ve selected a job, complete and submit an application for the position.  You may apply for multiple positions, but you can only work in one department or location.

  4. On-Campus Positions: The department offering the job will review the applications and schedule interviews.  If you’re selected for an interview, take with you 1) a print out of your financial aid award (from myWings) and 2) a print out of your class schedule (the “Student Schedule by Day and Time” from myWings works nicely for this).

Off-Campus Positions: Once you’ve applied for an off-campus community service position, you must contact the off-campus supervisor to schedule an interview (the name and phone number will be included with the job posting).  The off-campus supervisor will notify One Stop Student Services of the interview and will confirm your financial aid award, enrollment status, and eligibility for financial aid.

  5. Go to work.
Please note: Keep in mind that in order to qualify for FWSP positions, you must have been awarded Federal Work Study funding as part of your financial aid package, be enrolled in at least six semester credit hours each semester, and you must have met satisfactory academic progress requirements in order to receive financial aid.
