Grants 2007-2008

Grants are financial aid awards based on your financial need. These awards do not need to be repaid. Tentative disbursement dates will be made available online at the beginning of each semester. Tuition, fees, housing expenses and other monies owed to the university will be deducted from the first available aid, whether that is a grant, scholarship, loan or other outside resource. If funds remain after institutional charges have been deducted, a check for the remainder will be mailed to the student on established disbursement dates. The following are the different types of grants:

  • The Federal Pell Grant is a Federal aid program designed to provide financial aid to those who need it to attend post-secondary educational institutions. Pell grants are intended to be the "floor" of a financial aid package and may be combined with other forms of aid in order to meet the cost of education. The amount of the basic grant is determined on the basis of the student's and the family's resources. Maximum award is $4,050 per academic year.
  • The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Program (FSEOG) is a Federal grant designed to assist undergraduate students demonstrating exceptional financial need. Award amounts are based on amount of need and availability of funds.
  • The Florida Student Assistance Grant Program has been decentralized, but the State of Florida still sets the eligibility requirements. You must meet their criteria and be a full-time student (12 hours) at UNF to receive the FSAG from UNF. Disabled students registered with the Disabled Services Program Office may receive FSAG on less than fulltime enrollment. Please contact the Financial Aid Office if you would like to be considered for this exception.
  • UNF Institutional Grant The University of North Florida offers a variety of grants for students who demonstrate financial need. Awards range in value from $300 to $2,680 per academic term.

Reduction of Aid
The disbursement of the following programs will be reduced based on the number of hours a student enrolls.
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal SEOG
- Florida Student Assistance Grant
- UNF Institutional Grant
- UNF Housing Grant
- UNF Graduate Grant

The Federal Pell Grant follows a federal formula for reduction. The Federal SEOG, Florida Student Assistant Grant, UNF Institutional Grant and the UNF Housing Grant will be reduced by 25% for 9-11 hours; 50% for 6-8 hours and 100% for less than 6 hours. The UNF Graduate Grant will be reduced by 50% for 6-8 hours and 100% for less than 6 hours.
