Steps for Returning Students
- Complete and submit the renewal Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you did not receive a renewal
application from the U.S. Department of Education, you must
complete another FAFSA. Please be advised that if you do
not complete the FAFSA by April 1st of each year, your financial
aid may not be available by the beginning of the Fall semester.
You will be responsible for ANY and ALL financial obligations
including, but not limited to, housing, books, and tuition.
If your FAFSA is processed after April 1st, you will still
be awarded, but not by the tuition deadline.
- After FAFSA
results are received by the university, a financial award
package will be generated provided that the student has
been admitted into a degree-seeking major by the Office
of Admissions. The original financial award package is based
on full-time enrollment (12hrs for undergraduate and 9hrs.
for graduate).
- To access and accept your financial award, click
here and follow the steps outlined.
- If selected for verification by the U.S. Department
of Education, students will be required to provide copies
of relevant Federal income tax returns (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ).
Dependent students must also provide parent tax information.
Independent married students must provide spouse tax information.
Other information may also be requested to meet Federal
Verification Regulation requirements. If selected for verification,
the financial award is subject to change based on the results
of the verification process.
- The verification process
allows the university to verify the information on the FAFSA
by comparing it the requested documentation. If changes are
warranted, the university will make the changes based on the
documentation received from the student, electronically send
the changes to the government, and wait for the government
to approve the changes. Once the government approves
the changes, the university will adjust the financial award if necessary.

Steps for New Transfer Students
- If you have already completed the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) you must place the University of North Florida’s
school code (009841) on your FAFSA to ensure that the university
is able to access your FAFSA. If you have not completed the FAFSA,
you must do so immediately.
- If you transfer to the University of North Florida for the
Spring, you must complete the Mid-Year
Request Form.
- Complete and submit the renewal Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you did not receive a renewal application
from the U.S. Department of Education, you must complete another
FAFSA. Please be advised that if you do not complete the FAFSA

If your FAFSA results are received by April 1st then:
- You will have a financial aid award packaged before the
Fall payment deadline.
- You will be allowed to defer fees through the Cashier's
Office until funds are received. Please note that your awards must
be accepted in order to allow your fees to be deferred. The system
will calculate your accepted amount and allow that maximum amount
to atomically place your fees in a pending or deferment status.
Federal work-study can not be used to defer tuition fees. Students
who utilize work-study funds are paid bi-weekly from the university’s
payroll system.
If your FAFSA results are received AFTER April 1st then: - You will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis.
- No guarantee can be made as to when your financial aid funds will be available.
Your Financial Aid Award Package
If you qualify, your award will contain one or more types of
aid: scholarships, grants, loans and work-study. Scholarships
are awards based on grades and/or financial need and do not have
to be repaid. Grants also do not have to be repaid, and they
are awarded to students with the greatest financial need. Need-based
and non need-based loans are long-term and low-interest loans
that are guaranteed by the deferral government. They must be
repaid after you graduate, withdraw, or drop below half-time
enrollment.
Part-time employment or Federal
Work-Study is based on financial
need. Part-time student jobs range from 0-20 hours a week and
students are paid bi-weekly. The Parent Plus Loan (PLUS) is a
loan program that enables parents of dependent students to borrow
directly from lending institutions. Parents with good credit
history may use this loan to pay the entire cost of attendance
minus any other financial aid for a depend student. Repayment
of both the principle and the interest begins after the loan
is fully disbursed. The interest rate is variable and capped
at 9%. If you are interested in applying for the PLUS loan, please
complete the PLUS Loan application.
NOTE: All awards depend on available funds. The University of
North Florida has the right to change or cancel awards if funds
are unavailable. Your financial aid is contingent upon your eligibility
and funding allocations received by UNF from the Federal Government
and the Florida Legislature. Awards may be decreased or canceled
if either your eligibility or need changes or Legislative action
changes the level of funding of any program.
IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THE STEPS
ABOVE HAVE BEEN COMPLETED BY
APRIL 1ST. |
