Financial Aid FAQ's 2006-2007

  1. Who should complete the FAFSA?

    Students that are interested in applying for federal/state financial aid. Federal/state financial aid includes grants and student loans.

  2. How do I defer my tuition and fees until my money is disbursed to the university?

    • The University will automatically pend or defer students’ tuition and fees using their financial award. Please be advised that the following programs are EXCLUDED from the pending process.
      • The State University System Minority Scholarship
      • The Barnes and Nobles Bookstore Scholarship
      • The Delores Auzenne Fellowship
      • Key Alternative Loan
      • Private Loan
      • Nellie Mae Loan
      • Federal Work-Study Program
      • Florida PrePaid Program

    • If you only receive the above programs, you must contact the Cashier’s Office to pay your tuition and fees. If your award does not cover all of your tuition and fees, you must pay the amounts owned by the end of drop/add.

  3. How do I request a book voucher?

    If you have sufficient funds to cover books, notification will be forwarded to the UNF Bookstore. You will also receive an email notification to your UNF email account. You will be allowed to use up to $400, depending on how much financial aid you have been awarded. Your tuition and fees must be pended against awarded financial aid to utilize this process. Please be advised that you are not being awarded additional money for books. You are simply borrowing against your pended financial award.

  4. Can I pick up my refund check?

    No. The Cashier’s Office will mail refund checks or direct deposit the refund to your checking account if you have submit the Direct Deposit Form to the Cashier’s Office.

  5. When do I reapply for financial aid?

    Your financial aid is not automatically renewed. You must complete the FAFSA every school year that you interested in receiving financial aid. The FAFSA for the upcoming school year is available every January 1st.

  6. How do I choose my lender?

  7. Do I need to complete the entrance interview?

    The entrance interview is required by the Federal government to make you aware of your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. If you were awarded a student loan (subsidized or unsubsidized), you must complete the entrance interview. If you completed the entrance interview at a previous school, you still must complete another entrance interview. The verification of your completed entrance interview is not transferable.

  8. Do I have to complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN)?

    If you accept a loan (Stafford Loan or private loan), you will be required to complete a Master Promissory Note. If you choose a preferred lender, you can e-sign your MPN by going to www.nelnet.net. If you keep the same lender while attending UNF, you will not have to complete another MPN.

  9. How do I accepts/access my award letter?

    To access your award letter, you must log in to your myWings account. Once you have logged in, click on the Academics/Students Tab, click on Click Here - Student Self Service, click on Financial Aid, My Award Information, and then Accept Award Offer by Aid Year or Award by Aid Year. Select the appropriate aid year and click on submit.

  10. When will my financial aid be disbursed?

    • Awards are not disbursed until after the drop/add date. However, it depends on the type of award you receive as to when funds will be disbursed. For example, the Pell Grant can not be disbursed until we received federal authorization. State grants and state scholarships can not be disbursed until the funds are received from the state of Florida.
    • Stafford Loans, Private Loans and Plus Loans are disbursed twice within the school year. If you have completed the loan process, then your first disbursement will be approximately two weeks after the first day of the Fall semester. The second disbursement will be approximately two weeks after the first day of the Spring semester.
    • If you have accepted a loan, then the loan process includes the following:
      • Completion of verification (if selected)
      • Completion of entrance interview
      • Selecting a lender
      • Completion of Master Promissory Note (MPN)
