UFF Safety Updates

What does the union do for me?  This is an often heard question.

Here is just one small but important thing that we see to in order to protect you and your rights!

UFF/UNF SPECIAL BULLETIN!
WORKPLACE SAFETY UPDATE!

Chapter Takes Lead in Correcting A-V Safety Issue!
(Read the second page of the May 6 e-mail "Addendum" to university A-V policy!)

Recently a faculty member was seriously injured when he fell from a chair on which he was standing trying to adjust the controls on the classroom TV/VCR console.  And why was he standing on a chair trying to adjust the controls on the classroom TV/VCR console when he should have been using the remote control?   Very good question!!!   Why?  Because there wasn't any!

The chapter immediately contacted the administration on this matter on April 26, spelling out changes needed in our campus A-V practices and procedures.  Because of the unions lead on this safety issue, we are pleased to note that the administration agreed with everything we suggested and acted on the issues put forth!  Classrooms have, now, where necessary, been provided with remote controls and the administration has updated their A-V operations.

Please:     Read the administration's update to its A-V operations as noted above.
       And
Please:   Follow these new guidelines! No more injuries!

Campus Safety Issues?  Who to Notify?

If you know of any possible issue involving campus safety, physical and/or environmental, you should immediately contact one or more of the following:

  • UNF Police, 911 or ex. 2800 -- immediate physical dangers/medical emergencies
  • Dan Endicott, Director, Environmental Health and Safety, ex. 2019
  • Bob Lee, Chair, Disability Safety Committee, ex. 2769

And last but certainly not least -- Contact the Union!  Stan Swart (ex. 1654) has served as the chapter resource on these issues, but other officers will be happy to help.

Workplace Safety an Increasing Concern!

Workplace safety was not a major issue in higher education -- until recently.  Today it is receiving the attention it deserves and, unfortunately, UNF has had more than its share of problems.  Let's make the campus a safer place.  Be proactive regarding health and safety problems!
