Institutional Advancement

The capital campaign started in 1997.  It received 24 gifts of $1 million or more from alumnus Ann Hicks and other corporations and individuals.  Currently have received $70 million in hand.

V.                  Association President’s Report                                                         David Wesse, A&P President

David read the A&P Association’s mission statement and discussed the survey, the results of which are posted on the website.  He announced that merit based bonuses will be awarded annually.  He also mentioned that there are discussions about tuition remission for family, and the possibility of selling back annual leave.

The search process for the University president is coming to a conclusion.  The A&P Association was active in the search process.  Tuesday, May 20, 2003 the Board of Trustees will name the next president.

Beginning in the fall, the A&P Association will sponsor “First Thursday” events at Wackadoos.  September 1st will be the first event.

VII.               Legislative Update                                                                            Janet Owen, Director of

Governmental Affairs

A 60-day legislation session was held from March 3rd to May 7th and no budget was passed.  Today the House and Senate will pass their versions of the Appropriations bill.  The conference process will begin on Sunday.

There are two bills that we are concerned with – 49A and 51A.  51A concerns Presidential salary caps and admissions deposits.

VIII.             Campus Plan                                                                                   Phil Turner, Director of Facilities

Planning

Restriping and resealing of parking lots will take place this summer.  Parking lot 14 will be expanded adding 150 spaces for Fall 2003.   The Student Union is in the building program investigation stage.  Administrators are looking at financing options.  Library construction will begin in the fall.

IX.                 Human Resources                                                                           Mary O’Neal, Director of Human

Resources

Mary O’Neal discussed the management flexibility options:  flex time, job sharing, telecommuting, and internal promotions.  Training sessions begin next week.  Forms will be available on-line after the training sessions have ended.

X.                   Food Service Status Report                                                              David Wesse, A&P President

David Wesse gave an update on food service.  Outtakes will receive an umbrella awning.  New patio furniture for the Courtyard will be purchased.  2/3 of the deck at Wackadoos will be covered.  Next summer the Grey & Blue Café will totally renovated.  Mondo, a sandwich shop, will be constructed in Building 2 in the vending area for Fall 2003.  Concession areas in the Arena will be upgraded.

XI.                 Vote on Revised A&P Association By-Laws                                       David Wesse, A&P President

Revisions to the A&P Association by-laws passed by majority vote.

May 23rd is the deadline for applicants to submit their information sheet and recommendations.  June 18th the awards ceremony will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Library Atrium.  September 4th the reception will be held.
