Minutes of General Meeting

May 29, 2002

Breakfast

John welcomed 101 A&P members to our annual breakfast meeting.  He thanked Larry Davis and Donna Rawlins for arranging the Breakfast.   

Introduction of New Members

John asked all new members to stand and introduce themselves.  There were 7 new members present.

Treasurer’s Report – Donna Rawlins

Donna reported that as of May 1, 2002, our A&P balance was $2,176.73.   We currently have 5 members that contribute to the Association through payroll deduction.  The Gabor Account has a balance of $1,149.79.  This money is used to award two of our members for excellence.

Greetings from Vice President Pierre Allaire

Vice-President Allaire gave greetings in the absence of President Hopkins.  He talked about what A&P stood for and how he would miss being at the University of North Florida as he assumes the position as Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

 
Legislative Update – Janet Owen
The latest news from the legislature was provided by Janet and can be found at the Office of Governmental Affairs web page.
 
Campus Plan Update – Phil Turner

Phil stated that the new Science & Engineering Building will be finished early Fall, 2003.  There will be a 100,00 sq ft library addition off of Parking Lot 2 .  The road project will start early July and finish late next Spring.  The access will be at the Sports complex from the North.  Several remodeling jobs are underway in Housing, Food Service, and Bookstore.  The Fine Arts Complex Grand Opening will be January, 2003.

Food Service Update – David Wesse

David, Assistant Vice President for Administration & Planning showed renderings of the plans for new Food Service operations on campus.

·         Chartwells was recently selected to replace Sodexho.

·         Revamping the Osprey Café

·         A “stand up” Courtyard Café that will provide smoothies, yogurt, ice cream and coffee

·         The Grill will remain

·         Relocate the Marketplace to the right inside the Bookstore this summer

·         Set up an outtakes convenience store concept in what is currently the  lounge in Building 9

·         Convert the Boathouse this summer to a sit down full service restaurant that will have menu and table service and be open 7:00 – midnight.

Other projects David has underway include a new Electronic Banking Center with kiosk coming in July and remodeling the Bookstore.

Sick Leave Pool – Mary O’Neal

Mary spoke to the Association members about a Sick Leave Pool that is being established hopefully in September.  Highlights include:

What is it?

When Can I Use it?

Who Can Join?

o        Faculty, A&P and USPS employees

o        You must have one year of state service

o        You must have 64 hours of sick leave for full time employees

o        If you are part-time, your contribution will be prorated

When Can I Enroll?

o        Every fall during the Open Enrollment for Insurance changes (mid September – mid October) if eligible

Contributions to the Pool

o        You will contribute 8 hours of your sick leave to the pool.

How Do I Use It?

o        You must make application to the Sick Leave Pool Committee

o        You must have doctor’s statement verifying your illness/injury

Do I have to Pay it Back?

o        No, but unused leave must be given back to the pool

Cancellation

o        You may cancel at any time in writing

o        Your donated hours will remain in the pool

o        You may reapply during the next enrollment period if you cancel
