Requirements for Transfer Students
Freshman or Sophomore


Students who apply with less than 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of transferable course work will be considered for admission to the freshman or sophomore class. Official high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, all college transcripts, and transcripts from any credit-earning mechanism (such as IB, AP, Dual Enrollment, CLEP or DANTES) must be submitted for evaluation. The following criteria must be met:

  1. Satisfy the same general admissions requirements as freshman applicants.

  2. Have a cumulative college average of "C" or higher and have a "C" or higher average and "good standing" status (eligible to return) at the last college attended.

Junior or Senior


Transfer students comprise the largest group of students admitted to UNF. Students who have completed an Associate in Arts degree at a Florida public university, community or junior college; students who fall under the provisions of specific articulated programs; or students who have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of transferable college credit may be considered for admission. Official high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, all college transcripts, and transcripts from any credit-earning mechanism (such as IB, AP, Dual Enrollment, CLEP or DANTES) must be submitted for evaluation. A high school transcript should be submitted if foreign language courses were completed at that level. In addition, please note the following:

  1. All transfer students must have a cumulative college average of "C" or higher and be in "good standing" status ("C" or higher average and be eligible to return) at the last college attended.

  2. The Nursing program at UNF, composed of the Pre-Licensure Nursing track and the RN to BSN track, is a limited access program. Admittance to the program is competitive. Students who wish to be considered must meet or exceed the minimum eligibility criteria as established by the Nursing department of the College of Health at UNF. Sports Medicine/Athletic Training is also a limited access program and admittance to the program is competitive. Please contact the College of Health for additional information on either one of these programs.

  3. Most of the Education programs at UNF are limited access and have special admission requirements.  Students wishing to enter a teacher education program should contact the Office of Academic Advising, College of Education and Human Services at (904) 620-2530.

  4. Music (Voice and Piano only) Jazz Studies, and Music Performance have special admissions requirements. For more information, Please contact the UNF Department of Music.

  5. Liberal Studies is a special admission requirement program. Please contact the College of Arts and Sciences if you have any additional questions.

  6. Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering have special admissions requirements. Please contact the College of Computing Sciences and Engineering.

  7. The Graphic Design BFA program and the Multimedia BFA program at UNF are now limited access programs. Admittance to these programs is selective and competitive. Students who wish to be considered must meet or exceed the minimum eligibility criteria as established by the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Art and Design.The programs admit for fall and spring terms. A portfolio review is an integral part of the admission process for all applicants. Application deadlines for the programs are October 1 for spring admissions consideration and March 1 for fall admissions consideration. Students must contact the Department of Art and Design in writing no later than September 15 for spring admissions consideration and February 15 for fall admissions consideration to request an application packet at:

If not met before matriculation, the following will become a part of the student's program of study:

  1. Satisfaction of any prerequisites for the program desired. Prerequisites for all programs are listed in the University catalog.

  2. Satisfaction of Rule 6A-10.30 - College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST). Students who have not had the opportunity to take the CLAST examination will be required to register and pass the examination during their first term of enrollment at the University.

  3. Satisfaction of the Statewide Foreign Language Requirement if applicable.

  4. Satisfaction of Gordon Rule (College-Level Communications and Computation Skills). The rule requires students to complete 9 semester credit hours of English coursework, 3 semester credit hours of freshman core and 3 semester hours of philosophy in which the student is required to demonstrate writing skills. For more information on the Gordon Rule, please see Appendix C of the Undergraduate catalog.

Students who have completed an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida public institution will be considered to have satisfied the requirements of Rule 6A-10.30 (CLAST) as well as any approved general education program. Students who have not received an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida public institution or have not completed Associate of Arts general education requirements at a Florida public postsecondary institution will be required to meet UNF general education program requirements.
