1. How long does the process take?

The admissions process normally takes between four and six weeks of the receipt of the last piece of pertinent information. The application process will begin once the application, application fee, official transcripts, and any applicable test scores have been received.

2. When should I apply?
All transfer students must meet the admissions deadline for admissions consideration. Students are encouraged to apply early. You may apply up to one year in advance of your projected enrollment date. Florida public community college transfer students are encouraged to apply once they have completed 45 or more semester credit hours. UNF may be able to offer an early tentative admission to these students, provided they supply the final official A.A. degree transcript within 30 days of the beginning of their admitted term.

3. How do I know if my credits will transfer?

Please go to http://www.unf.edu/es/transfers/credits.html for detailed information.

4. I think I will have less than 60 transferable semester credit hours. Can I still transfer?

Yes. If you have less than 60 transferable semester credit hours, you will be required to meet the regular transfer student criteria (a minimum cumulative 2.0 in all transferable college course work) and the general admission criteria. Your high school transcripts, SAT and/or ACT scores will be reviewed, along with your official college records. You will receive written notification of your admissions status.

5. Do I have to have two years of sequential foreign language completed before I can transfer to UNF?

Maybe. If you have less than 60 transferable semester credit hours, you will be required to meet the regular transfer student criteria (a minimum cumulative 2.0 in all transferable college course work) and the general admission criteria. Part of the general admissions criteria for lower division transfer students and incoming freshman is the satisfactory completion of two years of sequential foreign language taken while in high school. If you are an upper-division transfer student, with 60 or more transferable semester credit hours or a public Florida community college A.A., the foreign language requirement becomes a graduation requirement rather than an admissions requirement. If you did complete the two years of sequential foreign language (or American sign language) at the high school level, you may submit an official high school transcript for review. If you satisfactorily completed the requirement at the college level (8 semester hours of sequential foreign language), you will be given credit as part of the transcript evaluation process. If you have not completed the requirement and if you are an upper-division transfer student, you will be allowed to complete the required 8 semester hours of foreign language while at UNF.

6. I believe I will have more than 60 transferable semester credit hours. How will my eligibility be determined?

If you have 60 or more transferable credit hours, UNF will review all of your college coursework, but will not need your SAT and/or ACT scores to make an admissions decision. At minimum, you must have a cumulative 2.0 in your college coursework to be considered. Admissions to limited access or special admissions majors is competitive and selective - all students, native and transfer, will be required to meet or exceed all admissions criteria. For more information regarding the admissions requirements for upper division students, please visit the requirements page.

7. I have an A.A. degree from a public Florida community college. Does that make any difference in my admissibility to UNF?

Yes. If you have a public Florida community college A.A. degree, your admission to the university is guaranteed; however, your admission to any limited-access or special admission major is not. Admittance to these programs is competitive and selective - all students, native and transfer, must meet or exceed all admissions criteria for these programs. All A.A. degree community college transfers must submit a final official transcript with the A.A. degree posting. The public Florida community college A.A. degree guarantees satisfaction of all UNF general education requirements. Please go to the UNF Undergraduate Catalog, for more information.

8. Do I have to pick a major before I can be processed for admission?

Yes. All transfer students with 60 or more transferable credit hours must declare a major as part of the admissions process. One of the first questions asked on the application is 'What is your planned major?' You must answer this question. Transfer students are admitted to a particular major, not just to the university. We must know what your major is in order to process your application. Click here for a current listing of UNF majors.

9. I have a disability. Is the admissions process the same for me?

Disability information is kept strictly confidential. If you checked the box on the application to indicate that you have a disability, and if you supplied documentation regarding your disability, you will be given special admission consideration. The information submitted will be reviewed by a committee and you will be notified of their decision. If you have any questions regarding disability consideration or documentation, please visit the Disabled Services webpage or contact them by telephone at (904) 620-2769.

10. I am active-duty military or a dependent spouse. Is the process the same for me?

As a member of the active-duty military or as a dependent spouse, UNF will allow you to transfer an AA degree from any regionally accredited college or university. Acceptance of an AA degree from a non-public Florida community college guarantees the satisfaction of the UNF general education requirement, but does not guarantee the satisfaction of the Gordon Rule or the CLAST requirements. For more information regarding UNF's general education requirements, Gordon Rule and CLAST, please go to Appendices B and C, and page 25-Academic Policies and Regulations, of the UNF Undergraduate Catalog.

11. I am an education major. Do I have take all sections of the CLAST?

Yes. All education majors at UNF must take and pass all sections of the CLAST. Exemptions from the test do not waive this entrance requirement for education majors. Transfer students having earned 60 or more transferable semester hours or with a public Florida community college AA degree, may be tentatively admitted for one semester without having taken or without having passed all four subsections of the CLAST. All tentatively admitted students must register for and pass all four subsections of the CLAST within the semester. For more information on the CLAST and education majors, please go to the section for College of Education and Human Services of the Undergraduate Catalog.

12. I am still taking classes. Can I apply even though I don't have my final grades?

Yes. In fact, it is strongly recommended that you apply early. UNF requires that you submit final official copies of your transcripts from each and every post-secondary institution attended. If you are still taking classes at the time you apply, you will need to submit a set of transcripts that includes the courses you are currently enrolled in. If you are admissible, UNF may offer you a tentative admittance. A tentative admittance is based on your successful completion of any outstanding coursework and the receipt of any outstanding final official transcripts. You will have 30 days into the term to submit final official transcripts to the Office of Admissions.

13. What is the immunization requirement?

Although it has nothing to do with your admissibility to the university, you will also be required to submit proof of immunization from measles, mumps, and rubella. If you do not submit vaccination records, you will not be permitted to register for classes. You may submit a photocopy of your shot records or you may download a copy of the health form. You can submit this form to your physician. Once the form is completed, you must return it to: Medical Compliance, University of North Florida, 1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224. You may prefer to fax the form to (904) 620-2901. If you have any questions regarding the immunization requirement, please contact Medical Compliance at (904) 620-2175.

14. Do I have to wait until I have everything together before I send my application?

No. You can send your transcripts, test scores, application and application fee one at a time or together, in groups, or all under separate cover. It makes no difference as long as all of the material is received by the deadline and as long as each piece of documentation carries your full name and social security number. Transcripts are held for up to one year.

15. I applied for or was admitted to an earlier term but was not able to make it. Do I have to re-apply?

Yes. You will be required to reapply, but you will not be required to pay another application fee or to submit the same transcripts as long as it has been within one year.
