Steps for Returning Students
|
- Complete and submit the renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- If you do not complete the FAFSA by the April 1st of each year, your financial aid may not be available by the beginning of the Fall term. You will be responsible for ANY and ALL financial obligations by the payment deadline if financial aid is not yet available.
- Your FAFSA will be processed, and a financial aid award posted, if received after April 1st. However, your award may not be available before the payment deadline.
- After UNF receives your FAFSA results AND you have been admitted to UNF into a degree-seeking program, a financial aid award package will be generated.
- The award package will be based on full-time enrollment (Undergraduate= 12 hours, Graduate= 9 hours).
- Awards may pay on a prorated scale if you enroll less than full-time. Most awards require a minimum enrollment of 6 hours (Undergraduate and Graduate).
- To access and accept your financial aid award, log into your myWings account.
- If selected for Verification by the U.S. Department of Education (noted on your Student Aid Report), you will be required to provide a complete UNF Verification Worksheet, signed copies of relevant Federal income tax returns (1040, 1040A, 1040EZ), including any relevant attachments, schedules, and W2s or other income statements.
- In addition to the student’s income tax information, dependent students will be required to provide signed parent tax information. Married, independent students will be required to provide signed spouse tax information.
- Other information may also be requested for clarification, to meet Federal Verification Regulation requirements.
- The verification process allows the university and the U.S. Department of Education to verify the information on the FAFSA by comparing with the requested documentation. If changes to the FAFSA are warranted, the university will make the necessary adjustments based on the documentation provided by the student, send the changes electronically to the government, and wait for approval from the government to complete verification, adjusting financial aid awards if necessary.
