37th Annual Writing Contest
The Annual Writing Contest at the University of North Florida encourages students to display and receive recognition for their skills and creativity. The staff of The Academic Center for Excellence (Founders Hall, 2/2120) organizes the contest; faculty from the Department of English read and rank the entries. Cash prizes are awarded to winners. Entry forms may be downloaded here or obtained at the ACE.

  • Only degree-seeking, undergraduate and graduate level UNF students enrolled for Fall 2009/Spring 2010 may enter (current employees of the ACE are not eligible to enter).
  • Only two entries per contestant, per category may be submitted.
  • No entry can be longer than 2500 words.
  • All entries must be typed and double-spaced on 8 1/2 inch paper.
  • Entries will not be returned.
  • The contestant's name must NOT appear on the entry.
  • Entries must be submitted to the ACE, in the Schultz Hall, 9/1419 between November 16, 2009 and February 15, 2010.
  • Contestants must submit two copies of each entry with an entry form for each.
  • Entries that do not follow the submission rules or are missing entry forms will be not be accepted.
  • Winners will be asked to submit an electronic copy (Word document) of the entry for publication.
  • Winning entries will be published by the ACE.
  • Prize money awards will be $125 for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place.

Entry Categories are Poetry, Short Fiction, and Creative Non-Fiction. Winners will be recognized at the annual UNF Honors Convocation. Please see below for a list of this year's winners.
