Campus Sustainability Month    

CSM: Icon Every October is Campus Sustainability Month at UNF. Organized by the Environmental Center, with support from the Sustainability Committee, Physical Facilities, Health Promotions and Volunteer Services, Campus Sustainability Month helps educate students, faculty and staff about the importance of sustainability and related projects taking place on campus and in the community. 

This year we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Sawmill Slough Preserve with a series of great events.

Yoga Cleanup

When: Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9-11 a.m.

Where: Memorial Park


The Environmental Center is incorporating yoga and clean ups into one great event! The Yoga Cleanup combines the health of the body as well as the health of the environment. After a guided session of yoga, participants will then partake in a community cleanup. Join the Facebook event for this great cleanup! 

Preserve Adventure Fest

Come experience the Sawmill Slough Preserve like never before! Preserve Adventure Fest is all about celebrating our campus' very own nature preserve with: 

  • FREE Zip line night courtesy of Eco Adventure
  • Guided nature hikes
  • Postcards from the Preserve
  • Nature-based crafts
  • Popsicles from Bold City Pops 

Nighttime Bug Collection

When: Monday, Oct. 17, from 8-10 p.m.

Where: Meet in Lot 14 


Come out to the Sawmill Slough Preserve for a special nighttime collection of insects. This fun volunteer event will add new insects to the Sawmill Slough Preserve Digital ArchiveThis event has a volunteer limit, so please register ASAP.

Pre[serve] Art Exhibition

Partners: Gallery of Art and Department of Art and Design

When: Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 4:30-7 p.m.

Where: UNF Gallery of Art


The Department of Art and Design, Gallery of Art and the Environmental Center are pleased to announce Pre[serve], a juried art exhibition that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Sawmill Slough Preserve. This exhibition will showcase works that share personal experiences, inspire others to connect with this environment and evoke awareness of the Preserve's perpetuity. Join us for the opening of the exhibition and enjoy beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres. The exhibition opening reception will be Thursday, Oct. 18, and will be displayed until Friday, Nov. 18. 

Screening of "Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret" and Indian Dinner

Host: UNF Vegetarian and Vegan Association

When: Friday, Oct. 21, time 6-9 p.m.

Where: Student Union Theatre, Room 2704 


Join the UNF Vegetarian and Vegan Association for a screening of the eye-opening documentary "Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret". A FREE indian dinner will be served to all attending. 


Scary Sustainability

Host: UNF Housing Sustainability Committee

When: Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 5-8 p.m.

Where: The Green


This Halloween-themed event will feature various educational activities for students to take part in, including an up-cycled costume contest, “trashy” relay race, and an eco-dinner. There will be a trick-or-treat style activity where students will collect “punches” on a card by visiting and speaking with various sustainably-minded organizations on campus.
