University plans Delaney inauguration

John Delaney

As the University plans for the inauguration of its fifth president, efforts are being made to involve the campus community, as well as the Jacksonville community.

John Delaney will be inaugurated at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 20, in the Fine Arts Center. It will be an opportunity for the former Jacksonville mayor to outline his vision for UNF, while the event will give visitors an opportunity to get better acquainted with this rapidly changing campus.

In an effort to involve all segments of the campus community, the inaugural planning committee is organizing conversations with A&P and USPS employees, students and faculty.

Pierre Allaire, who chairs the Presidential Inauguration Committee, said the event will give the new president numerous opportunities to interact with students, faculty and staff while showcasing the campus for the community.

Inaugural events will begin Monday, Feb. 16, and continue through Monday, Feb. 23. They include such things as a performance by Gaelic Storm on Feb. 19, and a lecture by foreign affairs columnist Fareed Zakaria on Feb. 23. The new facilities of UNF will be emphasized with the Feb. 23 dedication of the new Science & Engineering Building.

The schedule of inaugural events can be accessed from the UNF homepage.
