Magazine gives 'best of' nod to Golf Center and Hope Fund

UNF's new Hayt Golf Learning Center and the Hope Fund were singled out for awards in the annual "Best of Florida Schools" competition sponsored by Florida Leader Magazine.

The magazine, distributed at colleges and universities throughout Florida, recognized UNF for having the best golf course in the state-of-the art GolfPlex at UNF. The $2 million Hayt Center, which is on a 38-acre parcel on the southeast part of campus adjacent to J. Turner Butler Boulevard, features a driving range, an 8,000-square-foot educational facility and three regulation-distance golf holes. The facility is available for use by UNF students, faculty, staff and the general public.

The Hope Fund was praised as an example of university-community cooperation. It is a joint project between UNF journalism students in Dr. Paula Horvath-Neimeyer's class and The Florida Times-Union. Students research and write stories about needy families in the area that are published in the newspaper to raise money for nonprofit charities. More than $157,000 was raised in donations in the last drive.
Florida Leader magazine is published by Oxendine Publishing, which has sponsored the Best of Florida Schools awards for the last 12 years.
