A recent gift of $175,000 from the Bank of America will help
establish additional need- and merit-based scholarships at
UNF. The funds are part of a $1 million commitment Bank of
America has made to higher education in Florida.
"I want to thank Bank of America for this generous gift,"
said UNF President Anne Hopkins. "These scholarships enhance
Bank of America's well-earned reputation for supporting higher
education. I certainly appreciate and value their continued
support of this University."
UNF is one of 10 state universities to benefit from the money.
The state of Florida added $750,000 to the gift to establish
the Bank of America Endowed Scholarship Fund. The funds were
held by the Florida Board of Regents Foundation between 1999
and 2001. Under the state's new Florida Board of Education,
the money is being reallocated equally to the 10 state universities
that existed in Florida in 1999.
"Helping children and young adults succeed, from early-childhood
school readiness programs through college scholarships, is
our top philanthropic priority at Bank of America," said Cecil
"Mac" Holley, Bank of America president for Northeast Florida.
"We understand that providing educational opportunities at
all levels will have a lasting impact on Florida's future.
We're proud to continue our long-standing partnership with
UNF."
The Bank of America Foundation seeks to make educational
opportunities available for students of all ages. The bank
has demonstrated its commitment to helping children succeed
by supporting causes like the $50 million, five-year grant
to United Way's Success by Six initiative and its founding
corporate partnership with Take Stock in Children.
The Bank of America Foundation directs charitable giving
on behalf of Bank of America. The Bank of America Foundation
provides grants to nonprofit partners who use creativity and
imagination to help America's children succeed in life, neighborhoods
