Pierre Allaire is tying up loose ends at UNF as he prepares
to accept his new position at vice chancellor for development
at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
With his last day on the job expected to be later this month,
Allaire will leave behind a legacy of fund raising that has
been unmatched in the University's 30-year history.
When he came to UNF in 1995, Institutional Advancement, then
known as University Relations, was a raising about $2 million
a year. Since then, the total has increased dramatically.
During the last fiscal year, for example, the University raised
more than $12 million in gifts, state matches, pledges and
expectancies, the highest annual total in University history.
Thus far in this fiscal year more than $11.5 million in gifts
alone have been raised leading the way toward what is expected
to be a record year.
The $65 million Access to Excellence campaign which was publicly
launched in November of 2000 is expected to exceed its goal
by the end of the year.
UNF President Anne H. Hopkins praised Allaire noting that
he has been instrumental in the success of the University's
fund-raising efforts. "The success we have made in the Access
to Excellence capital campaign would not have been possible
without his hard work and dedication."
Allaire noted that the University provided him with the
resources to build the program in a fashion that would ensure
success. "I am most grateful for this opportunity and to have
been a part of the University's first comprehensive capital
campaign," he said.
When Allaire moves to UWM he will manage the university's
foundation and plans to launch a major capital campaign at
the 24,000-student urban public university.
"With his background in both academics and fund raising,
Pierre brings outstanding credentials and experience to UW-Milwaukee,"
said UWM Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. "All of those involved
with the search process developed a strong appreciation for
Pierre's keen understanding of campus-community dynamics."
Allaire came to UNF after working at Clemson University where
he was the chief development officer. Most of Allaire's development
experience was at the University of Florida where he started
in 1985 as director of development. He rose through a number
of positions including being campaign director for a five-year
capital campaign which raised $392 million. Prior to the University
of Florida, Allaire held a number of positions at Lees College
in Jackson, Ky. He was director of Corporate and Foundation
Relations from 1983 to 1985.
A search for Allaire's successor will begin soon. In the
interim, Hopkins has named Elizabeth Head, associate vice
president of major gifts, to be acting vice president for
Institutional Advancement and coordinate activities with the
UNF Foundation.
