Post-Baccalaureate Program
General Information
The UNF PreMedical Professions Program offers special services to students who have a bachelor's degree or higher and who wish to matriculate to medical professional schools. Students preparing for careers in the following are eligible: medicine, dentistry, optometry, physician assistance, pharmacy, podiatry, or veterinary medicine. To make optimal use these services, post-bac students who have little background in the basic sciences should begin in the summer semester.
The UNF program is designed primarily for students who have received
a baccalaureate degree (minimum 3.2 GPA) but who have not majored in one
of the natural sciences and have not attempted to enter medical professional
school. It is not a “remedial” program for students who need
to improve their performance in the basic science courses required by
medical professional schools.
Students enrolled in the post-baccalaureate premed program must maintain
a minimum overall GPA of 3.3 and a minimum science-math GPA of 3.5 to
stay in the program and be eglible for a certificate of completion.
Students in the program receive priority status for UNF course registration. A Certificate of Completion is awarded to students who complete 30 or more credits while maintaining an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher, and a science/math PGA of 3.5 or higher.
Application Process
To apply for the postbac premed program, two applications are required:
one for general admission to the university and one to our program.
The first required application is for general admission to the University.
An online application form for general admission to UNF is available at the UNF Office of Admissions website. Applicants should apply as post baccalaureate, with a "major" of pre-med certificate.
The second required application is the Post-Bac
Premed Application.
Instructions are included on the form. An undergraduate GPA of 3.2 is
required to be accepted into the program. For students far removed from
academic work, other factors may be considered in the application of the
GPA requirement. Strong preference is given to students who have not previously
applied for admission to medical professional schools.
Deadlines
Applications are accepted any time, but to meet priority registration
deadlines for Summer and Fall classes, all application materials should
be complete by March 1. To meet priority registration deadlines for Spring
semester, all application materials should be complete by October 1.
