The Departmental Staff
The University's Internal Auditing Department is comprised of talented individuals with diverse industry experience ranging from banking, government, public utilities, mortgage banking, retail, manufacturing and insurance. We utilize this experience to provide our clients with a quality audit function. Staff bios are present below.
Robert Berry
Interim Director of Internal Auditing
Robert Berry joined UNF in June 2007 as Associate Director of Internal Auditing. Prior to joining UNF, he spent several years in the financial services industry in variety of roles ranging from Internal Audit, Sarbanes Oxley and Accounting. Robert also has public accounting and consulting experience with Deloitte and Touché where he worked with a variety of clients in different industries providing services such as general accounting, business process improvement/reengineering, auditing and systems implementation. Additionally, he has experience with Jacksonville based Winn Dixie in both accounting and internal audit capacities.
Robert earned his B.S. in Accounting from Auburn University in Montgomery. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Systems Auditor and a Certified Controls Specialist.
Marty Z. Khan
Director of Internal Auditing (currently on military leave)
Mr. Khan began his career at the University of North Florida in June 1996, as an internal auditor/investigator. Prior to joining UNF, he served for more than eight years as an internal auditor for the Federal Government.
In 1980, Marty earned a B.S. in Economics/Accounting from Hunter College in New York, and in 1984, an M.S. in International Relations from Troy State University in Germany, and in 2004, a doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership doctoral program at the University of North Florida. Marty is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Government Financial Manager.
Cara L. Schaffer
Internal Auditor/Investigator
Ms. Schaffer joined the University of North Florida in September 1999 as Internal Auditor/Investigator. She brought with her over three years experience as a Utility Analyst with Gainesville Regional Utilities and thirteen years experience as an Internal Auditor with the Florida Power and Light Company.
Cara earned her BBA in Accounting in 1977 at the University of South Florida in Tampa and in 1987 was awarded the designation of Certified Internal Auditor. She is an active member in the IIA and ACUA.
Dorothea J. Kent
Support Staff
Dorothea has been employed at the University of North Florida since 1984. She joined the Office of Internal Auditing in July 1999 after being with the UNF's College of Business Administration for approximately 16 years. She graduated with a BAE from UNF and is continuing her education.
