Gottlieb Leads Reorganization to Achieve Greater Synergy

Gottlieb was appointed Associate Vice President for Human Resources in May. In addition to HR, she also oversees Equal Opportunity Programs and the Center for Professional Development and Training. She will also actively participate in on-campus collective bargaining.

"I hope to be able to achieve greater efficiencies with the integration of these three departments. This reorganization will provide synergy among these offices, thereby improving services to UNF employees and the campus community," she says.

Although many differences exist between the "corporate world" and "academia," Gottlieb says many of the HR issues are similar. Recruiting the best-qualified individuals and effectively training existing employees are crucial functions in either setting, she notes.

Gottlieb brings more than 20 years of human resource experience to the UNF post. Her professional career started in 1984 when she joined IBM in Rockville, Md. At IBM, Rachelle held a variety of positions, including Equal Opportunity Program Manager. From 1990 to 1994 she worked for The Walt Disney Company. Her duties included managing wage and salary compensation for more than 35,000 executives and employees. From 1994 to 1997, she worked for Rockwell International in El Paso, Texas and developed key annual compensation and employee benefits programs. In 1997, she was named Vice President, Human Resources with Security Capital Group, also in El Paso.

In 1999, Gottlieb joined the St. Joe Company in Jacksonville as Director, Human Resources. She was promoted to Vice President, Human Resources in 2000 and Senior Vice President, Human Resources in 2004. At St. Joe, she was responsible for benefits design and administration, compensation design, recruiting, compliance and employee relations.

Gottlieb graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, with a bachelor's of business administration in 1983 and a master's, with honors, in 1985. She is an Accredited Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

When she isn't working, Gottlieb says she enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff and their 10-year-old son, Alex. View a video of Rachelle by clicking here.
