Florida's Minimum Wage Increase for 2008

Effective January 1, 2008, Florida’s minimum wage will increase from $6.67 per hour to $6.79 per hour. Any employee that is currently making less than $6.79 per hour will receive an automatic increase in salary to match the new Florida minimum wage.

Departments do not need to send Personnel Action Forms (PAFs) to the Office of Human Resources to initiate this salary increase for any employees that are currently making less than $6.79 per hour. However, departments should ensure that any future new hire or change PAF reflects the new Florida minimum wage.

The rate of the minimum wage is recalculated yearly on September 30 based on the Consumer Price Index. Every year on January 1, the new Florida minimum wage takes effect. Florida’s minimum wage was created in a constitutional amendment approved by voters on November 2, 2004 and covers all employees in the state covered by the federal minimum wage.
