Great Decisions
Introduction
The World Affairs Council of Jacksonville (WAC), in coordination with The University of North Florida (UNF), will again offer the Great Decisions Program, developed by the Foreign Policy Association, the nation’s oldest organization devoted to citizen education in international affairs. It is an outstanding tool for in-depth discussion inside and outside the classroom on college and high school campuses around the country. The curriculum includes the “The Briefing Book,” which contains eight non-partisan articles with in-depth background, current data, current U.S. policy, the pros and cons of alternative policy options, and the Great Decisions video series. The only thing missing is …you!

Great Decisions in the High Schools
Scope: The Jacksonville Great Decisions program is offered to students participating in advanced social studies at several area high schools. Each Great Decision Society will have a student membership not exceeding 30 students, who are in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades, and who commit to the following:
  • Participate in the majority of the eight (8) after-school discussion sessions held at your school’s campus
  • Participate in the September Kick-Off Dinner & Discussion at UNF
  • Take advantage of extracurricular events offered by the Great Decisions Society
Benefit to Students
Students who meet the requirements of the Society’s membership will: (1) receive a certificate at year’s end, and (2) qualify for a letter of recommendation through the UNF Faculty Fellow who worked with you during the school year. This program is highly regarded and represents a significant accomplishment in your academic portfolio.
