What are the hours of operation for the Honors Office and the Honors Academic Advisor?

The Honors Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Honors Advisor is available for appointments Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and takes walk-ins on a first come first serve basis from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There is no academic advising on Wednesday.

Registration Information

How do I register for classes?

Students can register for classes via the internet (myWings portal). Directions for registration are available on the UNF website at http://www.unf.edu/es/onestop/recandreg/RegistrationGuide.pdf

Can I take another course at another institution while enrolled at UNF?

Yes, students may be concurrently enrolled at UNF and another accredited institution during the same semester. A Concurrent/Transient Enrollment Form must be completed and approved by an academic advisor. This approved form ensures that the course you take will transfer back to UNF for credit. If the approved Concurrent/Transient Enrollment Form is not on file in One Stop in advance of enrolling in the transfer course, UNF will not accept the credit. Students are not allowed to be concurrently enrolled in their last semester at UNF.

Students have 7 credit hours available for concurrent or transient enrollment. However, if you plan on completing your summer residency requirement (9 credit hours taken during the summer at a regionally accredited State of Florida school) at your home institution, you have up to 9 credit hours of transient enrollment.

Please remember that the 9 credit hour summer residency is a requirement for graduation. If you plan to use your 7 credit hours of concurrent/transient enrollment at a community college, you must complete your summer residency at UNF.

Will I be required to take a certain amount of course work every semester?

No. All students should decide their appropriate course load based on personal and career obligations. Students may take from 1 to 20 semester hours in any given term. Overload approval from the Dean's Office is required for 21 or more semester hours. Some students may need to maintain full–time status for a variety of reasons (such as financial aid, scholarships, Veteran's Affairs, insurance, etc.).  To be considered full-time, students must register for at least 12 hours each semester. Please visit an advisor, Financial Aid, or Veteran's Affairs prior to registration to find out your specific needs.

It is advisable that students enroll in no more than 12-15 credit hours per semester.

Degree Evaluation

Can I meet with an advisor to help me decide on a major?

Honors academic advising is designed to aid students in their first two years of college. The Honors Advisor is available to discuss possible options for majors and minors. In addition, students should seek guidance from the Career Services Office (building 9) in order to decide a major. Appointments are required to meet with a Career Counselor in Career Services, however, walk-ins are welcome to peruse the library of materials or ask general questions.

How do I create a Degree Evaluation?

A student can get a Degree Evaluation by logging into their MyWings account on the University’s main site. Their degree evaluation is available under student self-service. The student can then come into the office to have the Degree Evaluation explained to them. Second, the student can come into the Honors Office and meet with the Advisor.

After logging into your MyWings account, click on your “student” tab. Scroll down the page to “My Records”. You will see “Degree evaluation (Program of study). After clicking, you will receive several prompts. Select the current term, your current program of study, and view detail requirements.

How do I update/correct my Degree Evaluation?

If you notice that your Degree Evaluation does not accurately reflect your course completions (for example, your Honors English class doesn't show up in the English section), contact the Honors Advisor either through email or by coming into the Honors Office.

Can I major in Pre–med or Pre–law?

Pre–medical and Pre–law studies at UNF are not academic majors, rather they are programs designed to enhance the learning experience of students planning to go on to law school, allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dentistry, podiatry, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary medicine. All students must still choose a major from the approved list of majors offered in the College of Arts and Sciences or other academic colleges at UNF. The Pre-law and Pre-Medical programs provide assistance with selection of appropriate preparatory courses, admissions test preparation and applications to professional schools. They are directed by faculty specializing in the disciplines. Interested students should consult the UNF web pages for additional information.

Academic Probation and Dismissal from the Program

What happens if I am placed on academic probation or am dismissed from the Honors Program?

GPAs are reviewed each semester. If a student's cumulative UNF GPA falls below 2.5, the students will be dismissed from the Honors Program. If the GPA falls between 2.5 and 2.99, the student will be placed on academic probation. Students on academic probation will have two semesters (fall and spring) to raise their GPA to 3.0 or better to remain in the Honors Program. Students on probation will not be eligible for leadership positions, Honors scholarships, or travel opportunities. Students have the opportunity to appeal their Dismissal from the Honors Program by completing and submitting an Appeals Form within 10 days of notification of disciplinary/academic action and appearing before the Appeals Committee.

How do I withdraw from the Honors Program?

In order to withdraw from the Honors Program, students must visit the Honors office to complete an Exit Interview. An Exit Interview is required to have all of your academic information transferred to the appropriate advising office on campus. The Exit Interview generally takes less than 10 minutes.
