The Program Inventory is a list of programs that appear to meet the United States Department of Education's Principles of Effectiveness requirements for the Safe and Drug-Free Schools. When applied, the Principles assure that programs used in schools have the best chance of success in reducing or preventing substance use and violence. Consistent with Florida's policy of local control, decisions regarding the selection and use of programs, strategies, and curricula are at the discretion of local education agencies.
The Program Inventory is not intended to be comprehensive; rather it is a compilation of the results of several major reviews by qualified institutions. Other programs exist that have been shown to reduce violence or substance abuse.
The programs are divided into several different sections. Many fall into more than one category and are included in the area that appears to be the main focus of the program.
