What is online learning?

Online learning can be defined as "any learning experience or environment that relies upon the use of a computer or the Internet as the primary delivery mode of communication and presentation".

What types of online learning are available for employees at UNF?

UNF offers two avenues for learning online. CPDT, in collaboration with other UNF departments, continually creates customized online learning opportunities for the faculty/staff community on an array of important subjects, such as Banner processes, Position Description requirements and Golf Cart Safety.

In addition, CPDT has partnered with SkillSoft to provide online courses and references to help you develop your business, professional and computer skills. Topics range from writing effective business documents to solving problems as a team; from database design to programming and web development. Four types of learning initiatives are available through SkillSoft.

• Online self-paced courses that follow the "tell me, show me, practice it" approach.
• Instructor-led courses that deliver instruction via bulletin boards and email postings.
• Reference materials that serve as online books.
• Brainbench exams that allow you to test your knowledge in a specific area.

Why take online courses?

There are many reasons why you may choose to participate in online learning. Below are just a few of those reasons:

• Need to learn now and can not wait for next scheduled instructor-led session.
• Traditional classes are held at inconvenient times or locations.
• Instructor-led sessions tend to go too slow or too fast.
• Time is always an issue and can not take time away from the office.

All of our online learning opportunities are directed toward the faculty/staff community. Additionally, Students may participate in our SkillSoft courses as well.
