Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the Cashier's Office hours?

A: Our normal office hours are 8:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Thursday and until 4:00 on Fridays. We open late during drop/add week (first week of the semester).

Q: When is my tuition payment due?

A: Full payment of tuition and fees is due by the last day of the drop/add period or the end of the first week of classes. By that date you must:

  • Pay for your classes in full, or
  • Enroll in the half and half loan program by completing the enrollment form and paying half of the applied fees plus the enrollment fee, or
  • Have an award letter from the Financial Aid Office with sufficient aid to cover your charges, or
  • Notify the cashier's office of your third party billing authorization, or
  • A combination of any of the above.

NOTE:  Failure to do so by the due date will result in the assessment of a $75 late fee ($100.00 beginning fall 2008) or the cancellation of your schedule. Partial payments are not acceptable.

Q: What is a Third Party Billing Deferral Authorization?

A: A third party billing authorization allows the University to defer your payment for all or a portion of your payment for a period of time where the University has authority to bill and collect payment of your fees from a third party. This would include sponsorships, such as Florida Prepaid, Veterans Affairs, Military, Employer, and Scholarship provided from outside the University. You must submit written proof of your deferral to the Cashier's Office by the end of the drop/add period.

Q: What methods of payment do you accept?

A: We accept cash, personal checks, traveler's checks, money orders, and cashier's checks at the Cashier's Office, by mail or in our night drop box. We do not accept starter checks or any check that does not have your name, address, and telephone number, and the bank routing and account imprinted on it. If you do not wish to wait in line or want to make a payment after hours, you may put your check along with all the necessary information, in the night drop box located outside the Cashier's Office exit door. CHECKS ONLY PLEASE. Please include your driver's license number, phone number, and University ID ("N" number) on your check. Any check returned by your bank will be assessed a service charge and if appropriate, a late payment fee. Once a check has been dishonored, future payments must be in the form of cash, money order, or cashier's check.

You may pay your account using a Debit or Credit card online at "myWings" with a MasterCard, American Express, or Discover card. Please note that Visa cards are not accepted for online payments. You may not pay your bill in person at the Cashier's Office using any debit or credit card. There is a 1.5% convenience fee (2.3% beginning July 1, 2008) associated with online debit or credit card payment.

Q: I have Florida Prepaid for my tuition. Do I have to show you
     my card?

A: No - we will automatically post a deferment for the lesser of your registered hours or your remaining Prepaid hours. You are responsible to pay by the payment deadline any portion of your fees not covered by your Prepaid Plan, which may include your local fees if they are not included in your prepaid plan. Please note that the transportation access fee is not covered by the Prepaid local fee plan. You may incur a $75 late payment fee ($100.00 beginning fall 2008) if your balance is not paid by the deadline. If you do NOT wish the University of North Florida to bill Florida Prepaid for a given semester, you must complete and return to the Cashier's Office an opt-out form [doc]. A new form must be submitted each semester if you desire to not use your Florida Prepaid Program and you must have your account paid in full be the required deadline.

Q: Does the University of North Florida offer any payment plans?

A: The University offers a half and half loan to all students. This plan allows you to pay one-half your tuition and fees after deducting any awarded financial aid no later than the payment deadline date (no exceptions). The remaining one-half of your fees is due within 60 days from the start of the semester. A non refundable $15 service charge is due at the time the loan is applied for. To enroll you must complete the loan application/promissory note in person and pay the initial one-half by the required due date. Failure to pay the balance by the due date will result in a $75.00 late payment fee ($100.00 beginning fall 2008) assessed to your account.

Q: When can I get my books?

A: Simply visit the University bookstore on campus or check them out on the web at: www.efollett.com. Enter "Florida" for the state and then select University of North Florida from the drop-down menu. You can begin purchasing your books in 4-5 weeks prior to the start of the semester. You can also save time (and lines) by having your books ready for pickup (or mailed to you). If you have more financial aid than required to pay your tuition and fees, or University Housing charges, the bookstore will receive a list of students eligible to receive a book authorization, which will allow you to purchase books based on your expected financial aid. This will allow your books to be charged to your University account and deducted from your financial aid. The first list of eligible students will be sent to the bookstore approximately 1.5 weeks prior to the start of each semester. Only the amount you actually spend will be charged to your UNF account.

Q: When will financial aid refund checks be available?

A: Before any refunds can be released to you, your tuition and fees must be paid in full. IF your financial aid paperwork is finalized and exceeds the cost of attendance, refunds will be processed around third or fourth week of classes. Due to changes in federal regulations, the University of North Florida is mandating students enroll in direct deposit. This is a faster and safer way to receive your refund. To enroll you need to complete a Direct Deposit Authorization Form [doc] and return to the Cashier's Office with a voided blank check.

If you have any questions regarding your financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 904/620-5555.

Q: Where do I get my Student ID card?

A: The Osprey Card Office is located in Building 1, Room 1600.

Q: How do I obtain a parking permit?

A: If you plan to bring a vehicle on campus, you must have a parking permit displayed on your vehicle at all times when parked. Permits are available for either premium lots or discount lots. Premium lots include the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of each parking garage. If you do not purchase a permit, you may purchase a day pass for $3.00 total. If your vehicle does not have a permit displayed or is parked in an area not designated by your permit, you will receive parking ticket(s). Refer to the section on parking permits for the prices and locations of the various parking lots and garages available for use. Parking permits for students are issued at the cashier's office and must be paid at the time of issuance. Permits may not be deferred against financial aid or scholarships and students must show their UNF student ID (Osprey Card) to purchase or pick up a parking permit.

A shuttle bus is provided to assist the University community around various locations on campus and to UNF Hall and Alumni Hall. This is especially helpful for those individuals who choose to park in any of the discount lots. Questions concerning the shuttle bus should be addressed with Auxiliary Services.

Q: When will the dorms be open?

A: Students should check with the University Housing Office for dates on when dorms open or when housing payments are due. You may check out the Housing Office Webpage at: http://www.unfhousing.com/
