Gordon Rakita, Sociology and Criminal Justice

Students in Dr. Rakita's Introduction to Forensic Sciences course worked in groups to create and then process mock crime scenes in order to practice scientifically collecting and processing evidence. Part of that process was to take still photos and videotape the crime scene and collection process.

Dr. Rakita took those stills and videos and created a DVD for each team using the DVD authoring station in CIRT. The teams were then able to use this permanent record while processing evidence, ensuring that items were properly depicted on diagrams and maps of the crime scene, and complete their final CSI reports. Having DVDs that they could refer back to as they wrote their reports and attempted to solve the crime was an invaluable aid to the students.
