Timeline Creator Software   The Timeline Creator Software developed by the Center for Educational Resources at Johns Hopkins University provides faculty with a simple-to-use resource to create an interactive timeline for teaching or presentation purposes. The tool can display up to six timelines simultaneously and allows the designer to embed images and detail information for each separate event on the timeline.

American Memory Homepage of the Library of Congress   This site provides a searchable collection of images, movies, sound files, and documents dealing with American history and identity.
     
The Architect of the Capitol   The Architect of the Capitol site contains images may be used freely for educational purposes. If written permission for use is needed, a letter must be sent. Visit the Sculpture Gallery to obtain photographs of famous figures in American history.

Florida State Archives Photographic Collections   This photographic collection is searchable and includes an abundance of historical photographs and videos for the state of Florida.
     
NASA Multimedia Gallery   The NASA Multimedia Gallery provides some of the most dramatic photographs and art on the Web. Most of the images are free of copyright when used for educational purposes. Topics include the range of NASA activities, including astronomy, earth science, and oceanography.
     
National Archives and Records Administration   NARA includes a searchable archive of public domain images and documents.
     
National Conservation Training Center's National Image Library   This is a searchable collection of public domain, low resolution photographs that includes images of a variety of species including birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, mammals and plants as well as shots of  habitats, refuges, hatcheries, environmental issues, and Service personnel performing work related tasks.
     
Public Domain Images   PDI is a commercial enterprise that offers some interesting and freely available jpeg images. They also provide a thoughtful and concise explanation of copyright considerations on the Web. The photographs offered for free downloading include a variety of scholarly topics, drawing from the sciences and the humanities. They ask that you include a credit link back to their site.
     
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services Digital Media Library   A collection of images of American wildlife.
     
U.S. Geological Survey Aerial Photographs Online   An index of selected USGS Business and Cooperative Research and Development Agreement partner sites where maps can be accessed online.
     
USDA Forest Service Maps and Brochures   Links to visitor maps, topographic maps, and other specialty maps for national forests.
     
Webshots Community Pages   Webshots Community pages host thousands of pictures posted to the Web by amateur photographers.  These collections are posted for the public and intended for sharing via e-mail and the Web.

The English Server   The E-Server at the University of Washington provides a collection of multimedia and sound effect clips.
     
Partners in Rhyme   Partners in Rhyme offers royalty free sounds and public domain sound effects.
     
PD Info, The Public Domain Music Project   This site was started in 1986 by Marji Hazen of Ashland, Ohio, and is now hosted by Haven Sound Inc. This site provides a list of 3,000 public domain songs in the United States.
     
Public Domain Music   This site contains MIDI files of public domain music and text files of their lyrics, created by Benjamin Robert Tubb based on original sheetmusic sources. The collection includes Blues, Ragtime, Civil-War Era music and other American classics.
     
Web Helper Public Domain Music   Web Helper includes MIDI files and free sheet music from two turn-of-the century music anthologies.

Animation Factory   Animation Factory provides an indexed collection of animation files available free for non-commercial use. 
   
MediaBuilder.com   Media Builder is a great site for building animated text files and for editing GIF files online.  They have a great selection of free resources
   
WebDeveloper.com   Web Developer has a large repository of animations and other useful Web development material.  These animations are free for use on non-commericial Web sites.

Art Today Clip Art   Art Today includes a huge assortment of royalty-free, copyright-safe clipart and photos.
   
Graphic Maps   Graphic Maps is a commercial site that specializes in custom maps for Internet or Intranet applications. They also offer a wide selection of freely available maps. The categories include maps of the world, continents, countries, and states. Users may select several size and color options. In addition to maps, there are graphics of compasses and flags.
     
Icon Bazaar   Icon Bazaar is a fun site. The site owners have placed a collection of icons in the public domain for use by Web developers. They do ask that users download no more than 20 icons. A credit to the site is appreciated.
     
Music Related Graphic Images   This site is authored by Shirley E. Kaiser, and it offers an excellent collection of musical images. Buttons, backgrounds, and horizontal rules all have a musical theme. There is also very well designed clip art of instruments, clefs, and single notes.
     
Realm Graphics   Realm Graphics is a for-profit enterprise that generously offers Web art as a public service. They clearly define which sections of their Web site may be accessed for public domain graphics. Functional Web elements, such as buttons, backgrounds, and horizontal rules, are available here.
     
The Social Science Data Lab   This lab at the University of Colorado at Boulder offers an excellent resource kit for Web development. There are design tutorials, brief explanations about the use of graphics in Web pages, and HTML guides. As this is an academic site, the graphics available are especially useful for educational purposes.
     
The Social Sciences and Humanities Library Web Server   This site at UCSD is designed to assist students and faculty with Web-page construction. There are many useful small directional graphics, as well as cartoons, and images of people, office workers, and signs. This site is also host to "Flags of the World," a source of information and images for those seeking flag graphics.
     
The Web Developers Virtual Library Images and Icons Index   WDVL llinks to many sites containing public domain graphics for use in constructing Web pages.
