Overview

SafeAssignments allow students to submit papers which are checked against several databases of source material to Blackboard. SafeAssignments appear in courses as a new content type and can be added to any course content area. SafeAssignments function like the existing Assignment content type with the added layer of a plagiarism detection check once papers are submitted.

Please note: SafeAssignments are different from Assignments and there is no connection between the content types; therefore, it is not possible to turn an existing Assignment into a SafeAssignment.

Create SafeAssignments

  2. Select Create SafeAssignment from the Evaluate drop down menu.
    Create SafeAssignment
  3. Enter Information about the SafeAssignment.

Availability Dates Use these controls to set the date range when Students can interact with the SafeAssignment. It is possible to set only a Start date or only an End date.
Draft Allows Students to validate their paper without submitting it to the institutional database. Useful as an instructive tool to help Students learn how to attribute papers properly.
Student Viewable Determines whether or not Students can see the report generated when their papers are submitted.
Urgent Checking Sets papers to a high priority in the queue.
  4. Enter an Optional Announcement, if desired.
  5. Click Submit.

Please note: if students may be submitting papers to the SafeAssignment that include images, please inform them that the images must not exceed 2MB or the submission may fail.

Create Draft SafeAssignments

Instructors can choose to set up SafeAssignments as drafts, which allows students to submit papers in order to check for plagiarism without storing the papers in the Institutional Database.

To set up a Draft SafeAssignment - go through the regular SafeAssignment set up and set the Draft option to "Yes." The Draft SafeAssignment will allow each student to submit once and will check their paper and generate a SafeAssign Report but will not store it in the Institutional Database.

Please note:  Students may only submit one paper to each Draft SafeAssignment; therefore, if you would like to provide the option to submit multiple drafts, you will need to setup multiple Draft SafeAssignments. You also need to create another SafeAssignment that will be your Final Version.  This Final version should have the "Draft" feature set to "No" so that when the students submit, their paper is not only checked for plagiarism, but also stored in the database.
