HELPFUL RESOURCES >BLACKBOARD>FAQ>DOCUMENT PACKAGE

How can I add several documents to my course all at once?

The Document Package allows instructors to upload an entire compressed folder of documents from the hard drive of a computer to a Content Area in Blackboard (Course Documents, Assignments, etc.). Each file will get its own link in Blackboard, and the directory structure of the compressed folder is preserved.

Note: Please use appropriate file naming conventions on all folders and files in your compressed folder. Click here for detailed information on naming files for use in Blackboard.

  1. Create a folder containing the files and folders you wish to add to Blackboard.
  2. Create a compressed (zip) file of the folder.
    • PC Instructions - right click the folder and choose Send to>Compressed Folder or right click the folder and choose Win Zip>Add to Foldername.zip. This will create a compressed folder with the name of the folder plus the .zip extension in the same location as your original folder.

    • Mac Instructions - control click the folder and choose Create Archive of “folder” to use the built in Zip utility. This will create a .zip archive with the name of the folder plus the .zip extension in the same location as the original folder.

  5. Click on the Select Tool on the right of your screen. Choose Document Package. Click Go.
  6. Choose the appropriate settings.
  7. Click Browse to locate your zip file on the hard drive of your computer. Note: Make sure that you select the .zip file, not the original, uncompressed file.
  8. Click Submit to upload the files.
    Submit

Note: after uploading the .zip file to Blackboard from a Mac, hidden folders or files may become visible (.DS_Store and _MACOSX). You may manually remove these files by clicking the Remove button next to each unwanted file or folder.
