How do I change the look of my Course Menu?

There are several ways to modify the standard course menu in Blackboard:

Change the name of a menu item

Add new menu items

Remove menu items

Change the color of the menu

Change the menu style

To change the name of a menu item:

Make sure the Edit Mode is On:

Edit Mode

Click the drop down menu next to a menu item, then click Rename Link:

Type the new Name for the content area, then click the green check to Save.

To add new menu items:

Make sure the Edit Mode is On:

Edit Mode

Click the plus sign, then select the link type to add: Create Content Area, Create Tool Link, Create Course Link, Create External Link, Create Module Page, Create Subheader, Create Divider.

Type in a Name for the item, check Available to Users (if applicable), then click Submit.

To remove menu items:

Make sure the Edit Mode is On:

Edit Mode

Click the drop down menu next to a menu item, then click Delete.

Delete

Click OK on the message: Content Area can be made unavailable by selecting 'Change User Availability' option from the Menu, instead of removing it. Are you sure you want to delete?

Note: Use Hide Link to make an area unavailable if you do not want to remove the content from your course.

To change the color of the menu and the menu style:

Click Customization from the Control Panel of a course, then click Style:

Style

Select Text or Buttons as the Menu Style.

If Text is selected, choose the Background color and Text color.

If Buttons is selected, select a Button Type and Button Shape and search for and click the desired button.

Buttons

Click Submit.
