How do I copy content from one course into another?

There are several ways to copy content in Blackboard. Choose one of the options below for instructions on copying content from one Blackboard course into another.

  1. Copy whole sections of one course to another course (courses are located on the same server).
  2. Copy whole sections of an archived course (prior to Spring 2008) to a current semester course (courses are located on different servers).
  3. Copy a single content item, like a PDF file or Microsoft Word Document, from one course to another (course are located on the same server).

Method 1: Copy whole sections of one course to another course (courses are located on the same server).

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the course from which you wish to copy.
  2. Click Course Copy under Course Options.

  3. Click Copy Course Materials into an Existing Course.

  4. Click Browse to select the destination course (the course to which you wish to copy).
  5. Select the Course Materials to copy by checking the box next to each item you wish to copy.
  6. Click Submit.

Method 2: Copy whole sections of an archived course (prior to Spring 2008) to a current semester course (courses are located on different servers).

Create an Export File in the course from which you wish to copy.

Import the Export File into the current course.

To create an Export File in the course from which you wish to copy:

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the course from which you wish to copy.
  2. Click Export Course under Course Options.

  3. Click Export to create an Export file. For a package to serve as an exact record, including user records, use Archive instead of Export.

  4. Select materials to include in the export package. Click Submit to begin the Export process. You will receive an email once this process is complete.

  5. Click Export Course from the Control Panel of the course. You will see a File Download link. Click the link to download the Export file, then click Save to save it to your computer.

  6. Select a location to which you will save the file. Click Save.

To Import the file into the current course:

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the course to which you wish to copy.
  2. Click Import Package under Course Options.

  3. Click Browse to locate the file on your computer. Click Open to add the file.

  4. Select materials to include in the import process.
    Select Course Materials
  5. Click Submit. The import process will start and an email will be sent once the process is complete.

Method 3: Copy a single content item, like a PDF file or Microsoft Word Document, from one course to another (course located on the same server).

Note: This method only works with courses located on the same server (such as blackboard.unf.edu).

Enter the Blackboard course containing the item to be copied and go to the Control Panel. Click on the content area containing the item to be copied. Click the Copy button located to the right of the item. A copy/move screen will appear.

In section 2 Destination, choose the Destination Course from the drop-down menu. Next, click on the Browse button next to Destination Folder and choose the content area to which you would like to copy the item.

If you would like to move the item (deleting the original item from the source course), click the Yes radio button to answer the question “Remove item after copy?” Finally, click the Submit button to complete the copy.
