WYSIWYG

Blackboard now includes a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor. This makes it very simple to create formatted content in Blackboard. Using familiar tools, you can format text (color, font, etc) and paragraphs (indents, bullets, etc). You can even copy and paste text from Microsoft Word, and it will retain it's formatting. The WYSIWYG Editor is available in most Blackboard text boxes.

Please Note: The WYSIWYG Text Box Editor is now cross-browser, cross-platform compliant. However, the Text Box editor in Safari is a "lite" version and does not include all of the options available in FireFox and Internet Explorer.

To enable the WYSIWYG Text Box Editor, click on Personal Information on the My Institution tab.

Click Set Visual Text Box Editor Options.

Click Available then click Submit.

RefWorks is a new tool on campus that allows users to create their own reference database by importing references from online databases, or by entering text for other sources. They can use these references in writing papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds. Because this is an online service, the information can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. RefWorks also provides a Blackboard Building Block which allows Blackboard users to access their personal RefWorks accounts from within the course Tools page, and instructors to set up links to specific RefWorks databases from within courses, allowing students to access course-specific reading lists and group research projects.

The instructor installs a Blackboard Chalk Title in their course much as they would a Blackboard Course Cartridge. Like a Blackboard Course Cartridge, the Blackboard Chalk Title populates the course with discipline-specific learning materials, test banks and rich media, but it also enables additional functionality in the instructor Control Panel of the course web site.

*NOTE: This tool should be Unavailable by default in UNF Blackboard Courses. If you will be using a Blackboard Chalk Title in your course, you will need to make the Chalk Title Management available. To make the tool available, go to Manage Tools and click on Tool Availability.

Check the box next to Chalk Title Management and Submit.

Course Cartridges are an easy way for instructors to supplement their Blackboard courses with materials developed by academic publishers. Using a Course Cartridge allows you to import publishers’ content directly into a Blackboard course.

Cartridges may contain a wide variety of resources, including basic instructional text, PowerPoint presentations, subject-specific multimedia objects, or banks of test questions. Publishers may use different kinds of content in different Cartridges. Cartridge content is typically updated when new textbook editions are released.

All cartridges require an Instructor Download Key in order to import them into a Blackboard course. Instructor Download Keys for Course Cartridges are obtained directly from the publisher. To import a Cartridge into a course that has already been created, click on Import Course Cartridge in the Course Options area of the Control Panel.

Enter the Download Key provided by the Publisher.

Please note that Cartridge installation can take a few minutes or it can take several hours. It is best to wait until the cartridge installation completes before making changes to the course. The system will send you an email when the installation process is complete.

When instructors use Blackboard's Assignment Manager to post assignments, students can submit an Assignment via the View/Complete Assignment link and the completed assignment will appear in the Gradebook.
Adaptive Release of Content provides controls to release content to users based on a set of rules provided by the Instructor. The rules may be related to availability, date and time, individual users and user groups (such as course Groups), scores or attempts on any Gradebook item, or review status of another item in the course. This feature may be used by all Instructors and course developers. Some Instructors and course developers may choose to take advantage of advanced rule functionality to create sophisticated combinations of release rules on items. Others may utilize the basic rule functionality to release content to specific users or groups and/or to allow users to view content based on their performance on an assignment.

The following options are available:

Adaptive Release – Create basic rules for an item. Only one rule per item may be created.

Adaptive Release: Advanced – Create advanced rules for an item. Multiple rules may be created. User Progress – View the details on an item for all users in a course.
