Parent Organization |
Not only does The Child Development Research Center (CDRC) provide a wonderful, caring environment for children, it also aims to reinforce the parent-child bond and help facilitate interaction between other CDRC parents through it's Parent Organization. Membership in the Parent Organization is a step toward a higher level of parental involvement at CDRC by creating a planned program of experiences and activities which support and enhance the family. While the CDRC does some fund-raising, it's primary goal is to get parents involved with their children in various sponsored activities. Every year the Parent Organization meets to design activities for families to enjoy as well as other activities to help support the center and family life. Some of our previous activities include:
- Trips to the Cummer Museum
- Night walks on the UNF Trails
- Movie night at UNF's cinema
- A trip to ArtWalk in Downtown Jacksonville
- Organizing Teacher Appreciation
- Forums about improvements/praises for CDRC
- Child-rearing seminars
- Speakers about kindergarten & The Magnet Program
The Parent Organization meets once a month for an hour and a half. This year's meetings will begin with Parent Organization business/discussions, followed by a seminar on Conscious Discipline by Pamela Bell, the director of CDRC. The seminar on Conscious Discipline is a 10 step program that aims to help parents discipline their children without punishment. It is a program that the staff at CDRC is continually trained in and has benefitted the staff and the children. Please join us in our monthly meetings to help enrich our children's lives as well as our own. Meeting minutes are available online for those who can not make the meeting (please see below).
