Career Resources For Student Athletes
Athletes are very marketable to employers who seek employees with the following skills:
-Time Management
-Teamwork
-Goal Oriented
-Competitiveness
-Confidence
-Persistence/endurance
-Loyalty
-Discipline
-Dealing with setbacks
-Leadership
-Flexibility/adaptability
As a student athlete you might have thought about a career in professional sports. However, according to national statistics only about 1% of student athletes turn professional and those that do have an average career length of approximately three years. Therefore we recommend having a "game plan" for life. By combining the lessons you have learned from athletic competition and the educational opportunities offered by UNF, you will be well-prepared to meet the challenges of the world of work.

All individuals including student athletes can prepare for their future by working through the career development process:

-Self Assessment-understanding who you are at this point in your life, and identifying your skills, interests, values and personality characteristics

-Career Exploration-gathering information about potential careers

-Career Decision Making-developing the skills to make educated career decisions

-Career Implementation-developing the skills to get a job (resume and letter writing, interviewing, networking, and job hunting)
