How To Make The Most of The Education Job Fair

Before the Fair:

  • Plan to wear professional attire.
  • Prepare professional copies of your resume.
  • Develop a professional portfolio.
  • Develop interviewing skills.
  • Review typical questions asked in education interviews.
  • Obtain a list of school systems and other organizations attending the event.
  • Inquire about employers planning to conduct interviews on site at the event.
  • Plan your day to accommodate varying interview appointments.
  • Prioritize your list of employers (i.e first choice, second choice).
  • Research the school systems and organizations attending the event.

 At the Fair:

  • Present yourself as you would in an interview, practicing professionalism at all times.
  • Check-in at the student registration table and pick up employer listings and a name tag.
  • Head right away to your favorite employer, then follow through with others.
  • Maintain eye contact, extend a firm handshake, introduce yourself, and provide an interesting but brief summary of your background, achievements and/or career interests.
  • If scheduling multiple Fair interviews, incorporate breaks and avoid overlapping time slots.
  • Inquire about the formal application & hiring process and collect any available materials.
  • Immediately following any interview or contact, make notes of important information.

 After the Fair:

  • Follow-up with a thank-you letter, addressed to specific interviewers or contact, within 2-3 days.  You might also include any application materials.
  • Within two weeks, call the interviewer or contact to check on your application status and reiterate your strong interest in their position
