Using the Wireless Network
Frequently Asked Questions
What is wireless technology?
Wireless technology allows computers and WiFi devices to send and receive Internet data via a wireless network. Users with a IEEE 802.11G wireless card can access the wireless network within the Coggin College of Business building.
Is the network secure?
The Coggin College wireless network is as secure as any open, public access network (ie public libraries). It is recommended that personal and confidential information not be sent over the wireless network.
What equipment do I need to access the network?
A WiFi-enabled device with an internet browser and a IEEE 802.11G wireless Ethernet card. The wireless card can be integrated into the device or purchased separately as an add-on.
What type of wireless standard is supported?
IEEE 802.11G only.
Where can I buy a wireless card?
Wireless cards are available at most major electronics retailers. Remember to install the appropriate software before connecting the wireless card.
Where are the access points located?
There are multiple access points spread throughout all three floors of the Coggin College of Business. Students can access the network from any classroom, hallway, or the lobby, as well as the surrounding perimeter of the Coggin College of Business building.
How do I connect to the wireless network?
1. Install your wireless card and software.
2. You may be prompted to "Join the Wireless Network".
3. Simply open an internet browser and you should be connected.
