Spotlight on Student Clubs

Coggin College is proud to announce the establishment of three new student clubs during the last year: the Entrepreneur Society, the International Business Society, and a collegiate chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants.

With over a dozen active and professional organizations to choose among, Coggin College students are able to round out their academic studies with professional development activities such as distinguished speaker events, conferences, site tours, and social networking.

The Entrepreneur Society, established to compliment Coggin College's new minor in Entrepreneurship, caters to the entrepreneurial needs of all students at UNF. The Entrepreneur Society connects students with Jacksonville’s entrepreneurs and enables them to network with like-minded individuals at national collegiate conferences.

The International Business Society seeks to provide a students with a network to share academic, career and study abroad information while building knowledge about the local and international community through professional and social activities. This organization compliments Coggin College's International Business Flagship Program, in recognition of the increasing need to prepare students for the international business environment of the future.

A collegiate chapter of the the National Association of Black Accountant was established to address the concerns of minorities entering the accounting profession and to make a commitment to professional and academic excellence.

Club Activity Highlights:

  • Members of Finance & Investment Society and Students in Free Enterprise won the Goldman Sachs competition in April 2007 and was selected to participate in the Capital Market Forum in New York in October 2007.
  • UNF's Entrepreneur Society traveled to Chicago, Illinois in November 2007 for the Collegiate Entrepreneur's Organization conference where over 150 universities and colleges from around the world gathered to hear insight from successful entrepreneurs on exactly how to build and develop their business ideas.
  • Delta Sigma Pi attended the Grand Chapter Congress in August 2007 and the LEAD (Leadership and Excellence Academies for Deltasigs) in November 2007. Both events offered leadership workshops and allowed participants to network with collegiate brothers and alumni.
  • The Transportation & Logistics Society is underway with preparations for their 8th Annual Career Day on February 29, 2008. “One giant leap for professionals in transportation & logistics.” Contact Lynn Brown for more information.
  • Finance & Investment Society was awarded the Superior Chapter Designation (for over 10 years in a row now). For student chapters of the Financial Management Association, less than 5% nationwide receive this designation and less than 1% receive it annually.
  • Finance & Investment Society was awarded the Transformational Learning Opportunity Grant from the board of trustees of UNF, with which 10 members were able to attend the Financial Management Association's annual conference in Chicago, IL. While there, they were able to visit the Chicago Board of Trade, Morningstar, the Mercantile Exchange, and the Sears tower.
  • Finance & Investment Society members comprised 13 of the 14 students recognized during the inaugural year of STAR Certification Program, a series of career development workshops offered by the Career Management Center.
