Coggin
College Hosts International Business
Research Conference
Academic research continues to play an increasingly
central role in the life of the Coggin College. In fact,
the Coggin College hosted the Sixth Annual International
Business Research Conference in February.
Co-sponsored by Warsaw University’s
Centre for Europe and the Coggin College, the conference
was chaired by Coggin’s Dr.
Mina Baliamoune-Lutz, Associate Professor of Economics.
The Coggin program co-chairs were Dr.
Adel El-Ansary, Dr.
Jeff Michelman, and Dr.
Andres Gallo.
“This conference allowed me to gain
a better understanding of how research in other areas of
business impacts accounting and information technology,”
said Dr. Michelman. “In addition, it gives faculty
and students an opportunity to work collaboratively and
gives students the opportunity to participate in an on-campus
research conference.”
Building on its previous success, this
year’s conference was lengthened to two days, allowing
coverage of additional topics, as well as more in-depth
exploration of each issue. Presentations were far-reaching
and diverse – ranging from ethics to oil prices.
One of the unique aspects of this conference
is its interdisciplinary nature, since most academic conferences
focus on specific disciplines, or even sub-disciplines.
“I would dare say that the conference was one of the
most enriching interdisciplinary experiences in my career,”
said Dr. El-Ansary.
Eight countries were represented with conference
participants from not only UNF, but also universities from
Poland, Argentina, Australia, Germany, the Fiji Islands,
the Benin Republic, Turkey, and Austria. One side benefit
of the conference was the appointment of one international
presenter, Dr.
Sandy Bond, as a Visiting Professor of Finance for the
Fall 2006 semester.
“I am so pleased to have had the
opportunity to share and receive information critical to
international business practices from such an esteemed group
of professors,” said Dr. Gallo. “The research
presented at this conference will help to strengthen and
improve the International Business programs at the Coggin
College of Business.”
