Profile: Dr. Charles Calhoun
Calhoun named Independent Chair
of Consultative Advisory Group
Dr. Charles Calhoun, Chair of the Accounting
and Finance Department at UNF’s Coggin College of
Business, has been appointed as the first independent chair
of the Consultative Advisory Group of the International
Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB). The appointment
was made by the International Federation of Accoutants’
Public Interest Oversight Board.
As a key representative of the Consultative
Advisory Group (CAG), Dr. Calhoun will serve as the primary
advisor for the International Federation of Accountants
(IFAC) to the International Accounting Education Standards
Board (IAESB).
“I am pleased to have been appointed
to the Consultative Advisory Group. This organization’s
mission is consistent with my beliefs in procuring excellence
in accounting education and in maintaining the highest ethical
accounting practices both domestically and internationally”
says Dr. Calhoun.
The CAG includes representatives of academic
institutions, regulators, accountancy bodies and other organizations
with an interest in high-quality international standards
on accounting education, and provides guidance and input
on the strategic direction of the IAESB.
“We welcome Dr. Calhoun’s appointment
as the first independent chair of the IAESB CAG,”
says Professor Stavros Thomadakis, Chair of the Public Interest
Oversight Board. “This important step will further
strengthen the due process for setting education standards.”
Dr. Calhoun is a former Chairman of the
Florida State Board of accountancy, a longtime member and
former chairman of the National Association of State Boards
of Accountancy’s CPA Examination and Review Board,
and has served as Technical Advisor to the United States
representative on the IFAC Education Committee (now called
the IAESB).
A former athlete, he captained the 1963
FSU football team, and played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats
of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Dr. Calhoun still
enjoys sports and plays golf frequently at Sawgrass Country
Club. He resides at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra with Fran, his
wife of 42 years. |
