Coggin Alumni Honored

Four Coggin College of Business alumni were honored recently at the UNF Alumni Association’s annual awards dinner.

Held annually during Homecoming, the event features the alumni awards for each college at UNF along with awards for Honorary Alumni and Distinguished Alumni at UNF. Dean John McAllister presided over the four Outstanding Alumni awards from the Coggin College.

The first of the four recipients was the Coggin College of Business Chair of the Department of Management, Marketing and Logistics, and Professor of Management, Dr. H. Eugene Baker, III. Dr. Baker received his BBA from the University of North Florida in 1974, and an MBA from UNF in 1976. He holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Florida and is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR).

He has received numerous teaching awards including the University of North Florida Undergraduate Teaching Award and was twice the recipient of the State of Florida Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) Award. In 2000, he was awarded the illustrious Prime F. Osborn, III Award for Distinguished Business Leaders in Business Education.

The second award was presented to Charles Diebel, who unfortunately could not attend the awards due to illness, but was presented the award the following week. Mr. Diebel graduated from UNF with a degree in Building Construction in 1973, and received his MBA from the Coggin College in 1978. He is President of The Auchter Company, a Jacksonville-based construction company. He joined The Auchter Company in June 2003 as Executive Vice President after 19 years with Koger Equity. Active in his community, Mr. Diebel is a current Director and past President of the NAIOP – North Florida, CCIM-North Florida, and the Jacksonville Oceanside Rotary Club. He is also a Director of the Commercial Alliance of Realtors (CAR) and Board Member for Leadership Jacksonville.

Dean McAllister presented the third award of the evening to Jose Ignacio Saez, who traveled from Spain to be in attendance at the awards dinner. Mr. Saez is the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Business Development Manager and Marketing Service Provider for Intel Corporation based in Spain. He has been with Intel Corporation since 2001 and heads up Intel’s Business Development activities. Saez holds a BBA in Business Administration and Finance from the Coggin College, and a Master of International Management from Thunderbird in Arizona.

The final Coggin Outstanding Alumni award was presented to Cleve Warren. Due to the flu, his award was accepted by his wife, Pat. Mr. Warren is the President and CEO of the Jacksonville Economic Development Company (JEDCO). Prior to his affiliation with JEDCO, Mr. Warren held several positions in the banking industry which led to his founding of The Players Group International. The Players Group provides investment and financial consulting services to over 70 professional athletes.

A native of Jacksonville, Warren is nationally recognized as an economic development consultant and business advisor, and is frequently called upon by banks, community groups and government agencies for his advice and counsel on matters related to community reinvestment and urban economic development. His public service experience includes posts like Executive Director of the State of Florida’s Black Business Investment Board in the administration of Governor Bob Martinez, and a later appointment by Mayor Ed Austin as Chief of Economic Development for Jacksonville.

Recently appointed by Major John Peyton, Warren serves on the board of the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, The Mayor’s Growth Management Task Force, and was asked to Chair the Appointments Committee for the Parks and Recreation Department, as well as many other state appointments. He also serves on the boards of several charitable and civic organizations such as The Eartha M.M. White Legacy Endowment Fund and the Non-Profit Board of N.E. Florida. Mr. Warren received his BBA in Banking and Finance from the Coggin College, and his MBA from Jacksonville University.

Upon receiving the award, Mr. Warren and his fellow trustees of the Eartha M.M. White Legacy Fund established a new scholarship at UNF, honoring Dr. Andrew Robinson, for students majoring in either the Coggin College or the College of Education and Human Services at UNF.

The Coggin College of Business salutes these outstanding winners, and we are proud to call these exceptional individuals our alumni.
