Coggin
College establishes the PAPER Institute
With support from NPTA, the PAPER Foundation,
and Walter Moore
The Coggin College of Business recently announced the establishment
of the Paper And Plastics Education Research (PAPER) Institute
which will encourage and support Coggin College faculty
in their research, education, and development endeavors
that integrate academic pursuits relevant to the National
Paper Trade Alliance (NPTA) and its membership.
With the generosity of the Paper And Plastics
Education Research (PAPER) Foundation and the National Paper
Trade Association, the PAPER Institute was created from
an Eminent Scholar Chair position funded by the PAPER Foundation
in the 1980s at UNF. Because the opportunity for more research
in the industry existed, the University’s academic
leadership worked with the NPTA and the PAPER Foundation
to create the Institute which will more readily stimulate
relevant research.
“This new initiative is already proving
to be very important for our industry,” noted Bill
Hirsch, Chairman of the PAPER Foundation. “Our leadership
looks forward to working with the Coggin College and learning
from the research being conducted.”
Additionally, retired paper industry executive,
Walter Moore and his wife, Mary Ann, recently established
the Walter L. Moore Endowed Graduate Fellowship to assist
the PAPER Institute with its mission. While maturation of
the Moore’s generous gift is taking place, the PAPER
Foundation has also agreed to provide additional monetary
resources to begin funding a graduate assistant position
for the PAPER Institute in Fall 2006.
“Providing research opportunities
for our faculty through the PAPER Institute is a wonderful
way to remain engaged and relevant to the paper industry,”
said Dr. John McAllister, Dean of the Coggin College of
Business. “I am grateful to the NPTA, the PAPER Foundation,
and Walter Moore for their generous investment in this important
program.”
“The PAPER Institute is already up
and running with three faculty research projects currently
funded,” said Dr. Steven Williamson, Director of the
PAPER Institute and Associate Professor of Management in
the Coggin College. “Topic selection for projects
within the PAPER Institute will be made in consultation
with the leadership of the PAPER Foundation to assure topic
relevance to the industry.”
To date, the funded research projects have
generated two articles for Distribution Sales and Management
and one research presentation took place at the NPTA’s
Chicago 2005 Annual Meeting.
