and Logistics Program
Ranks 13th in Nation
The Coggin College’s Transportation
and Logistics program has been ranked 13th in the nation
by Supply Chain Management Review, paving the way
for national prominence. The college comes in ahead of the
highly regarded programs at Stanford, Harvard, Wisconsin,
and Pennsylvania, and is the leading logistics program in
the southeast.
“It’s an incredible testament
to the hard work of the logistics faculty in the college
and its relevance to our students and subsequent alumni,”
noted Dr. John P. McAllister, Dean of the Coggin College
of Business. “I’m particularly grateful to the
dedicated faculty in the department who consistently go
above and beyond for our students and graduates in producing
an outstanding program.”
Transportation and logistics is growing
exponentially in the greater Jacksonville area. During the
past several years, Jacksonville has become a veritable
center in the areas of finance, commerce, and trade. Jacksonville
is home to a full-service international seaport, along with
access to railroads, airports, warehousing, and three interstate
highways. Additionally, leading companies like CSX Transportation,
JM Family Enterprises and Southeast Toyota, TNT Logistics
North America, Crowley Maritime, Sea Star Line, Landstar
System, and others have established major corporate facilities
on Florida’s First Coast.
The Transportation and Logistics program
in the Coggin College prepares students for challenging
careers in supply chain management, international logistics,
transportation and physical distribution. The program has
received considerable state, national and international
recognition. The Florida Board of Regents selected the program
as one of the initial five programs to receive the Florida
Legislature’s “Program of Distinction”
emphasis within the State University System. The Board of
Regents further recognized the Program by designating it
as one of the university system’s “Centers of
Excellence.”
Earlier this year, undergraduate and graduate
students studying Transportation and Logistics in the Coggin
College had the opportunity to meet with some of the industry’s
most reputable companies when the Transportation & Logistics
Society student group held its 5th annual Career Day in
February. Career Day is a yearly recruitment event organized
to bring students and companies together for a day of interviewing
and informational sessions. Sixteen companies, five of which
were from outside the Jacksonville area, joined nearly 50
students for the most successful Career Day to date.
Clearly, the Coggin College’s Transportation
and Logistics program is well-positioned to continue to
meet the growing needs of Supply Chain Management in Jacksonville…and
beyond!
