The Future of First Coast Real Estate Explored
In September, the Coggin College Alumni Chapter hosted
its Fall Speaker Series luncheon featuring Ed Burr, President
and CEO of LandMar Group. The company was founded by
Burr in 1987 and is a real estate development company,
specializing in land development, residential sales,
and marketing. Burr is also active at UNF, serving on
the UNF Foundation Board as well as the Coggin College’s
Business Advisory Council.
With the hot topic of the current and future real estate
market and Burr’s expertise, the event drew the largest
crowd the Coggin Alumni Chapter has ever hosted, with attendance
by over 100 alumni and colleagues.
In his remarks, Burr reported that over 1,000 people move
to Florida every day, and that Northeast Florida maintains
its position as one of the fastest growing markets. Although
the real estate market has slowed and continues to soften,
LandMar continues to plan new developments in Northeast
Florida, anticipating sustained growth on the First Coast.
“I feel confident in the First Coast real estate
market and in the progression of Jacksonville and its surrounding
areas, even as much of the country’s market lags
behind us,” noted Burr in his presentation.
In May 2006, Burr received the Prime
F. Osborn, III, Distinguished Business Leaders Award from
the Coggin College, recognizing his long-term career
achievements and leadership.
“It was an honor to hear Ed’s views of the
future of First Coast real estate. His insights are particularly
meaningful based on his long and successful history in
real estate development,” said Dean John McAllister.
The Coggin College Alumni Chapter strives to present interesting,
relevant topics to its fellow alumni through the Alumni
Chapter Speaker Series, and looks forward to the next installment
of the Series scheduled for Spring 2007. If you are not
receiving invitations to this, or other Coggin College
events, please contact Kathleen Leone at 620-1369 or k.leone@unf.edu to

Coggin Alumni Chapter Board Nominating
Committee
Recommends 2007 Slate
For the first time, the nominating process for the 2007
Coggin Alumni Chapter Board was handled electronically.
All Coggin Alumni were invited to nominate a fellow Coggin
College graduate or themselves for the 2007 Board, which
will be officially instated at the December 19th annual
meeting of Coggin College alumni. We encourage all Coggin
Alumni to attend this special meeting. To RSVP, please
e-mail or call Kathleen Leone at k.leone@unf.edu or
904-620-1369 by December 15th.
“Making the decisions about whom to invite on the
Board was extremely difficult this year,” said Nominating
Committee Chair, Debbie Johnson (BBA ’85, MBA ’89). “There
were so many equally qualified candidates, all of whom
had something unique to bring to the Board, and such few
positions to fill. We feel confident that the 2007 slate
provides fantastic leadership for our future.”
Five Officer positions and eight at-large positions were
filled, and new members for both the Membership and Outreach
Committee, and the Professional Development Committee were
added. To view the proposed slate, please visit www.unf.edu/coggin/alumni.
