Career
Management Center Opening in 2007
The second floor of the Coggin College will see many hard
hats in the coming weeks as construction for the new Career
Management Center is scheduled to begin in January 2007.
Creating a Center dedicated solely to the
Coggin College establishes a competitive edge for attracting
the best students to UNF and the Coggin College. The Center,
to be managed by Shannon
Italia, will provide intensive career training to our
students and recent alumni, as well as providing a hands-on
approach to regional, national and international companies
interested in recruiting Coggin College graduates.
The establishment of this Center is a direct
result of generous contributions from friends and alumni
of the Coggin College of Business, including David
Smith/PSS World Medical, Luther
and Blanche Coggin, and Reynolds
Smith
& Hills. Most recently, The
Jacksonville Bank committed
to name one of the new interview rooms for the Career Management
Center.
“We have several Coggin College graduates
working at the bank and it was a perfect fit for us to make
a meaningful contribution,” noted Gil Pomar, President
of The Jacksonville Bank. “It’s exciting to
know that the Coggin College is taking the next step toward
improving students’ interview and resume building
skills, and that the students will have a significant edge
over graduates from other universities.”
First Coast businesses will also benefit
significantly from the Center. Employers will be able to
post job openings, conduct resume searches and view online
resume books, attend career fairs and do online recruiting,
as well as enjoy the advantages of connecting individually
with students and with various student groups. They’ll
even have the capabilities to enjoy videoconferencing with
students should the companies be based outside of Jacksonville.
“I’m excited about the future
of this important Career Management Center,” noted
Shannon Italia. “By developing a high quality Career
Management Center, the Coggin College will be able to increase
important connections with the business community and valued
alumni.”
